“Neh, you are not dreaming.” Despite his giant size, massive muscles and all those tattoos, Tiegan’s intense stare was the most intimidating part of him.
Symphony glanced away, trembling from confusion, excitement and disbelief.
Sara put an arm on Tiegan’s shoulder. “Can you excuse us?”
For a second, it looked like the alien wanted to say no, but he dipped his chin. Eyes boring into her again, he commanded, “Do not jump off the bed.”
She shivered in fear. “I-I won’t.”
He turned swiftly and stormed out.
Sara chuckled.
“What’s so funny?”
“I’ve never seen him act like that before.” Her nose scrunched in amusement. “He’s usually more… contained.”
“Him? Contained?”
Sara shrugged.
Symphony shook her head and returned her attention to her arm. “What is this?” She let it flap around, dazzled. “Why can I move this arm like normal?”
“It’s a long story.” She sat on the edge of the bed. “The short version is that you were saved by Rune and the Healer.”
“Is Rune… are they really… aliens?”
“Yes.”
Symphony’s eyes widened. That shouldn’t shock her given she was lying in a cave with two full arms instead of a stump on her left shoulder, but it was still too much to take in.
“Do you remember how you got here?” Sara asked quietly. “Do you remember who tortured you?”
“Tortured me?”
“The Plutonians have many enemies. We’re just recovering from a war right now.” She gestured over her shoulder. “My mate, Korben, and his crew are really anxious to know if there’s an incoming threat.”
At Sara’s grave words, reality hit Symphony hard. She wasn’t dreaming. This was an alien planet.
But how did she get here? And why?
Four
Tiegan
“Your concern is unwarranted,Tiegan. Sah-ah can handle herself.” Korben’s eyes trained on him as he marched back and forth.
They had set up a war room in the cavern closest to the female. Holos shed white and silver light against the rocky walls. A table and crude chairs had been drug out of the Healer’s camp.
Tiegan, along with Rune, The Healer and the other newly-appointed elders, had gathered to discuss the female’s condition.
“I am not worried about Sah-ah,” Tiegan mumbled.
“Then you worry for the female?” Rune asked. He was big and broad with hair that fell past his shoulders. Unlike the others who wore a band on their arm to identify their tribas, his was bare.
Many rotations ago, Rune left his tribas to live with his human mate Ga Eun. He’d forsaken his brother and everything he knew to build a life with her. It was only after the Ungazi War that he emerged from hiding.
Tiegan would be forever grateful for Rune’s presence. His technology and the Healer’s understanding of human anatomy was what kept the female alive.
