“Why?”

“I don’t know.Maybe he thinks I just can’t make up my mind.Personally, I think I have the best of both worlds.Lately, over the past few years, he’s come around, and now he’s fine with it.”

Sebastian laughed with Jack then spoke.“I’ve never married.Got close a couple of times when I was younger but it just never happened. My father knows I’m bisexual. He wasn’t impressed at first either, but he also came around. Now he really likes Jack, probably because they’re both ski nuts.”

They were all silent for a while.

As Lucy thought about the things they’d told her, she remembered something from the previous night.“Last night you said you’ve had both boyfriends and girlfriends before.”

“Yes, but none of them lasted.”Sebastian cocked his head, peering off into the distance, obviously thinking. He took a breath then added, “Think the longest was about four months.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be.”

“So you think you need another person in the relationship? Why?I mean, you both obviously care for each other deeply.Aren’t you worried it will affect it?”

“Of course there’s a risk, but we’ve always enjoyed having a third person. It’s just something we love and would like permanently.”

“Okay.”

“We actually were with a guy for almost four months. It was okay, but Jack liked him more than I did.Don’t get me wrong, I liked Stephen a lot, but he didn’t like that I was always the boss.We kind of clashed.”

Jack snorted at that as Sebastian continued.“In the end, the three of us decided it wasn’t going to work. We’re still friendly, see him on occasions. He’s got a boyfriend he’s been with for maybe twelve months, and they seem really happy.”The laugh he then gave was not a pleasant one.“I guess our sort of Dom-sub thing was just too much to handle, or maybe it was the fact I’m so bossy.”

Lucy was unable to hide her concern as she said, “But I don’t even know ifIcan handle it.”

“No, but you’ve listened and you accepted what we’ve said.”

Jack touched her knee.“And you wanted a kiss.”

Oh hell, I think I wanted more than just a kiss.

Lucy blushed when the two men laughed.

Sebastian cocked his head and said, “Tell us something, Lucy, truthfully. Why on earth hasn’t some man snaffled you up?I know about you caring for your mother but before that or since.”

She shrugged.“To start with, I was looking after Allison, my daughter, and working trying to keep a roof over our heads.”She stopped talking, thinking about Allison.“My daughter left home when she was sixteen. She resented the fact that I was always working—I had two jobs.I know she didn’t really understand.Shedidcome back into my life when she was nineteen, and after a few rocky years we managed to settle into a good relationship. As for men...”Lucy hesitated then went on.“Well, I dated a little when she left until I started caring for Mum.She was ill for six years.I’ve only been on a few dinner dates since her death.”

“There’s something you’re not saying, Lucy. It’s in your voice.”

Lucy was too embarrassed to say that she wanted a man to control her, especially considering Sebastian was a Dom.She’d had a few dates with a much stronger man.He had given her orders the one time they’d had sex, and it turned her on having no control.

Jack took the coffee mug from her hands. She’d finished drinking but sat fiddling with it.He spoke quietly.“Lucy, would it make it any easier if I were to tell you that before I met Sebastian, I’d had a few relationships, both male and female.None of them worked for me either.I worked hard, I was the boss and in control, but I didn’t want that in my sex life.I wanted to hand the reins over to someone else. Then I met Sebastian Daley.”

He looked at Sebastian and reached across Lucy’s knees to take his hand and squeeze it before dropping his arm back to his own knee.“I met this guy who excited me from the first day I saw him.He was single. He was already a very dominant man but without a partner. Before I knew it, I was hooked. Finally, I had what I always wanted.Someone who treated me as an equal with love and respect but who ordered me about during our sexual romps. Finally, I didn’t have to think about what happened in the bedroom.Instead, I just had to obey and enjoy.”He winked at Lucy.“And enjoy I do.”

Lucy rushed over her reply.“Okay, I get that.I know what you mean.”She took a breath.“But, in all honesty, I still can’t quite understand why you want a third.Like I said before, it’s obvious you two love each other, so why mess with what you’ve got?”

“Fair question.”Sebastian answered.“Did you ever see someone when you were married and think ‘gee, they’re hot’?Both of us are still attracted to men and women.Look, Lucy, neither of us wants to cheat, so the best way to have our cake and eat it too is to welcome another person into the relationship.Like I said, we both enjoy having another person, and I really get off ordering people in the bedroom.I love it when I have Jack and someone else to control. Both of us have always thought a relationship with three in it would be perfect for us.”

“How do you deal with jealousy?I mean, what happens if he or she falls in love with only one of you?”

“That’s the risk we take.Actually, it’s a risk everyone who’s in a relationship takes—that their partner might meet someone else and fall in love.Still, for us, we hope they fall hopelessly in love with both of us.It would only work if the three of us were in love with each other.Jack and I trust each other.I guess we just have to hope it works out the way we’d like it to.So far, it’s never happened. Our third partner has never worked out long term.”

He looked at her thoughtfully.“Just what weren’t you saying, Lucy?”

Surprised, Lucy actually thought Sebastian had forgotten his previous comment. Her head bent and she mumbled, “Kind of like Jack said.”
