Up ahead, I can see the prisoner cells. It resembles my operation because the cells are modern, enclosed, and soundproof. A camera and mic are located in each cell so we can watch the prisoners to ensure their safety.
Enforcer Hill, currently guarding the prisoners, unlocks a cell to open it. Out walks a nervous she-wolf who eyes Devon warily. "Devon," she begins as she looks up at him with a big blue-eyed doe look. Tears gathering. "I—I"
"I don't want you to start with this act again, Jeni." He cuts her off. "I don't want to hear anything more from your lying mouth." He Alpha commands, and she immediately shuts up. "You and your lies have cost me my family." He motions for Enforcer Hill to open up the next cell. As he does, out walks the other prisoner. Sheila Morris.
As the prisoners stand before Alpha Devon, he booms, "I, Alpha Devon Wright, banish you, Jeni Quinn, and Sheila Morris, from my pack lands and order younever to return.
“Further, I forbid you to speak to Amaris Richland Wright, my pup, my future offspring, or anyone else in my family." He warns, "I don't know what will happen to you when you stand trial at Stone Mountain before Alpha Commander Beck Kason, but don't ever return here." He nods to Enforcer Hill, who leads them away as Jeni begins sobbing.
Enforcer Hill and I assist them into the back of the SUV I am driving, with three of my enforcers, two of which are females. A second SUV is trailing behind with four more enforcers, two ofwhich are female, for when we pick up Ms. Vincent at the Little Silver Creek Pack.
Once we are loaded up, I shake hands with Enforcer Hill. Alpha Devon did not follow us out. We head West.
The drive is uneventful except for one time when the two prisoners attempt to talk. "Devon mentioned Alpha Commander Beck Kason. Isn't he the one who was supposed to be your mate?" Sheila asks Jeni. I could see Jeni's shocked look in my rear-view mirror. "You met him at the meet & greet three years ago and rejected him, remember?"
"No talking." I rebuke her, and the talking ceases.
Around noon, we arrive at Little Silver Creek Pack. Stepping out of the vehicle, we are greeted by Alpha Jenson and Enforcer Orson. After shaking hands, Alpha Jenson invites us all in for lunch. As we enter the pack house, two of the four female enforcers take our prisoners to use the restroom.
Afterward, we all meet in the dining hall. Again, the meal is placed on the bar and served buffet style. With our high metabolisms, wolves are accustomed to eating large, full meals. I load my plate and sit down. We alternate our watch over the prisoners so everyone can eat.
I tuck into my plate. Alpha Jenson barely picks at his food. When I look at him questioningly, he updates me on his sordid tale. Listening to him, I realize he is much in the same boat as Alpha Devon. He didn't put his mate first and betrayed her. What's wrong with these idiots?
"Alpha Jenson," I start when he finishes, "I hope if you are lucky enough to win your Luna back, you treat her as she deserves and not like a second thought. I don't have my Luna yet, but when I find her, I hope I am smart enough to put her before everyone and everything. This may sound disrespectful to the pack, but my Luna will always be first," I declare. "That iswhy it’s important to ensure that if you have a good mate, you honor her and treat her well. She comes before all."
"Well, my elder may be losing his mate too." He divulges. "Rumor has it that his mate, Elder Tina, has kicked him out of their home." His voice is lowered. "She was upset that our Luna was disregarded. And rightly so. She probably felt disrespected, herself."
I raise my eyebrows. Alpha Jenson and his elder seem like two more hopeless cases when it involves valuing their mates.
After we finish our meal, the enforcers take the prisoners back to the SUVs and wait for us there. Alpha Jenson, Enforcer Orson, and I go to the basement to collect his prisoner.
Their basement prison block is modern and almost identical to the Still Waters Pack prison cells. Enforcer Orson unlocks the cell door and out walks a heavily pregnant female. While Jenson had told me the entire unsavory story, it was shocking to see a pregnant she-wolf incarcerated.
I meet her eyes, and an electric pulse reverberates through my body. Her eyes widen, and a smile crosses her beautiful face as my wolf, Raze, pushes to the forefront.
"Mate,"he growls. We are so captivated by her that we reach to touch her face. However, it suddenly dawns on us thatthis female is not honorable. Her actions have deemed her an unworthy and untrustworthy mate in our eyes. She isn't someone we can put before everyone and everything. We can't accept her as our mate as much as it pains us. My eyes burn as I blink and turn away.
Tears spring to her eyes and roll down her cheeks as she realizes the magnitude of what she has done, of how she has doomed our relationship to failure because of her criminal actions. "I-I'm sorry." She stutters.
Everyone is looking at us in astonishment. I take a deep breath. "What's your full name?"
"Tracy Marie Vincent." She whispers.
"Tracy," I hesitate. "When are you due?"
"Any day, now." She pales.
"I will remain at Stone Mountain until you are delivered of your pup." I caution, "At that time, I will reject you. I can’t in good conscience reject you before delivery and risk injury to your pup."
She nods as the tears continue to flow.
"Let's get loaded up." I trot up the stairs and out to the waiting SUVs. "Put Ms. Vincent in the second vehicle, and let's roll." She is hastily placed in the second SUV, and we are again on our way.
This time, we are headed south to Stone Mountain Kingdom. And if what I’ve heard from the prisoners is true, the Alpha Commander and I have something in common; our fated mates are criminals who didn't want us but wanted someone else enough to try to destroy their mate bond.
My heart and mind are in tatters; two selfish females have destroyed four broken-hearted Alphas.
