Nothing will ever allow me to go back and change the past. Those memories will always be there, and I’ll never deny them. But they can be overshadowed by the happiness of today and the hope of tomorrow.
“Move in with me,” I blurt the words and freeze.
Shit, I didn’t mean to say that. Not yet at least. I had planned on getting her home, naked, and put her in an orgasm comabefore I brought up moving in. Everything is better after a few orgasms.
“Don’t you think this is all moving too fast?”
I blow out a relieved breath because she doesn’t turn me down right away. It gives me something to work with.
“No,” my voice is full of conviction, “it’s not too fast. I would have moved you in weeks ago, Little Ray,” I admit. “I want you in the house with me. Macklin was right when he mentioned how I’ll be alone in the house when Noel and Delaney’s house is finished. It already has plenty of room and space and we’re on opposite sides of the house until they move out. And they will be moving out. The house is too big for just me and I don’t want to wait to start on forever with you.”
As I look into her eyes, I hope she can see how much I mean my words. Can she feel my sincerity? I feel almost desperate to have her move in with me and it has nothing to do with making up for the past.
I need her and she needs me. That’s all there is to it.
When I can feel her waffling, I don’t give up. “I wasted so much time being a jerk when I could have been loving you the way I do. I could have been feeling your love. I’ve needed it and I didn’t even realize it.”
She shakes her head slowly and my gut clenches. “We wouldn’t have worked back then,” she tells me. “I wouldn’t have left, and I wouldn’t have gone after my dreams. We needed the time to grow and become the people we are today.” She swallows hard and gives me a soft smile filled with love. “Now, we’re ready.”
My mouth drops open, and I get a little teary eyed even though I’ll never admit to such a ridiculous thing out loud.
“Does that mean what I think it means?”
Her smile lights up the entire fucking restaurant. “I’ll move in with you, Hux.”
I’m up and out of my chair and then dropping down to both knees next to her, not caring about who is watching. My large hands cup her face as the world around us fades to nothing. The moment my lips touch hers, I deepen the kiss.
“We need to get out of here so I can get you naked,” I murmur against her lips.
She giggles and I’m fucking done.
I barely stop long enough to pay the bill. My hands itch to throw her over my shoulder because my strides are so much longer than hers, but I stop myself. It’s not easy to do.
By the time we make it home, it feels like my entire body is buzzing with anticipation. The reality of this moment washes over me, and I find myself chuckling.
Sunshine’s eyes are wide as she turns her head toward me. “Are you cracking?” She peers at me seriously before her face scrunches up slightly. “Did I break you?”
“No,” I gasp, “I’m just happy.” I turn my body towards hers and cup her face in my hands again, loving how soft her skin is against the calloused pads of my fingers. “You’re mine, Sunshine,” I tell her seriously.
“I’m yours,” she echoes, and it does something dangerous to my heart and soul.
An obsession like I’ve never known before makes itself known. I’ll fight the entire world to keep her happy. I’ll find out how to make fire from nothing to battle any darkness that tries to come for us. I’ll never let her walk this earth alone.
Never fucking again.
I’ll stand in front of her if anyone dares to try and make her feel less than the amazing woman she is. No matter who it is.
Only love will come from my lips. Only reverence will be found in my touch.
“You’re moving in,” my voice is filled with awe. She nods with a smile on her face. “I can cross off the first part of my plan.”
Her eyebrow arches and makes my cock throb in response; she’s so fucking sexy. “I’m almost afraid to ask,” she teases me, “but what’s the next part of your plan?”
“Getting my ring on your finger and my baby in your belly,” I admit without hesitation.
Sunshine’s eyes widen, but what she doesn’t do is tell me it’s not going to happen. She makes a humming sound, and I pull her across the center of my truck until she’s in my lap.
“There’s no time to walk around,” I explain as I open the door and get out of my truck carefully because I have precious cargo in my arms.
