“Absolutely.”
“Will do, pres.”
“Don’t make me regret greenlighting this,” Scar says as he walks out.
As soon as he’s gone, I throw myself into Matrix’s arms. “This is closer than I’ve ever gotten since I started searching for her.”
“It might be a wild goose chase,” he warns.
“Maybe. But at least I’ll be able to take this cartel off my list of possible suspects. Narrowing down the options isn’t as good as being handed a dossier of possible perps, but it’s better than nothing.”
“I hope we find something when we get there.” Stroking his hand down my back, he holds me close.
“Me too.”
I kiss him softly at first, but the passion simmering between us can’t be contained. Although I must have felt his lips on mine dozens of times last night, I can’t seem to get enough. If I weren’t so focused on getting to Denver, I’d drag him back to bed immediately.
Scar returns several minutes later. “We’re all set. Acid’s looking forward to meeting the Fed smart enough to sneak into our club.”
“Daisy will be safe, right?” Matrix asks.
“Acid assured me he’d look the other way. He doesn’t have any interest in bringing a bunch of heat down on his club. As far as he’s concerned, she’s your old lady.”
“Uh, that’s not …” Matrix slides his gaze down to me.
“Don’t worry,” I tell him. “I don’t expect hearts and rainbows or happily ever afters. I know what’s up.”
“Consider it your cover,” Scar says. “I told him you’d be there by morning. I figured you wouldn’t want to wait.”
“We’ll take turns driving. It’s only eleven hours,” Matrix says.
“I don’t plan on sleeping any time soon.” My racing heart will make it impossible to sleep.
We’re so close to a possible lead that I wish we could fly to Denver. However, by the time we book flights and arrange everything, we may as well just drive. I can use the time to figure out what to do once we arrive. If Acid’s club manages to capture some of the traffickers, we’ll be able to interrogate them. If they die while the club tries to rescue the girls, I can talk to them instead. Either way, I’m going to get information I didn’t have before. It’s a long shot, but it’s one worth pursuing.
Chapter 9: Matrix
I want Daisy in my lap, but she refuses, claiming I won’t be able to drive if I’m trying to fuck her too. Well, she’s not wrong. I’d love to be able to pull over and give it to her hard on the side of the road. Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait. She’ll kill me if I stop driving before we get to the clubhouse in Denver. Hopefully, the interrogation won’t take long once we arrive. I can’t wait to have her naked and riding my cock again.
Shifting in my seat, I check the GPS navigation map. We’ve still got another twenty miles before we’ll roll in. The clubhouse is located northwest of Denver near Coal Creek Canyon. I haven’t been there in years, but I should try to visit these guys more often. Their parties are legendary. I vaguely remember the last one I attended. The booze flowed like a river that night. Hopefully, we’ll have time to enjoy another party while we’re here.
“How much longer is it?” Daisy asks.
“Almost there, babe. Have you thought about the questions you want to ask them?”
“That’s all I’ve been doing. I can’t think about anything else.”
“I know you’re anxious about this meeting, but don’t get too far ahead of yourself. We don’t even know if they picked up those guys. I don’t want you to be disappointed if we get there and they’ve got nothing for us.”
“Based on what Scar said, these guys don’t fail. They’ll have the men who kidnapped those girls. The kids will be safe, and we’ll be able to take them home.”
“We?”
“How else are they going to get back to Montana?”
“You’re assuming they all live there or that they’ll want to go home. Some of the kids who get trafficked are running away from even worse situations. I’ve rescued children from parents who didn’t deserve kids after the way they mistreated them.”
“If any of the girls don’t want to go home, then what?” The concern in her voice warms my heart. She’s just as worried about helping people as I am.
