“I wouldn’t complain about that,” Nina says, laughing.“Let your man spoil you.”
“Yeah, babe.”
“Please stop. Guys, I know you mean well, but I’m going nuts. All I do is lay around thinking. There aren’t any distractions to keep my brain occupied, so it ends up going down a very dark path. I can’t stand the thought of Blackstone being out there. He’s free to terrorize anyone who stands in his way, and we can’t do a damn thing to stop him.”
“Get used to it,” Reaper grumbles.
“No. I want him dead. He tried to kill Angie and me.” I push one of the slices around my plate, but I’m not actually hungry. I just didn’t want to be alone with my thoughts anymore.
“We’ll get him,” Nitro says.
“You know what I realized?” I ask.
“What?” Talon focuses his attention on me.
“Blackstone won’t ever be brought to justice through the legal system. It’s too corrupt. Even though he couldn’t possibly have remodeled the basement in a few hours, someone could have warned him months ago. A lot of people within the FBI knew I was undercover with you. They probably realized it was only a matter of time before I discovered Blackstone’s connection to my sister’s kidnapping.”
“Exactly.” Matrix nods in agreement.
“Then how do we do it? How can we finally get him?” I ask.
“We’re still trying to figure that out. Nothing we’ve tried so far has worked, but we’ll keep at it until he’s either in prison or dead. Trust me, babe. We haven’t given up. That’s not even an option.”
“I want to watch him die.” I glance at Angie. She tilts her head slightly, watching me with a curious gaze, but she doesn’t say anything.
“You and me both, sister.” Talon reaches over the table to give me a high-five. I slap his hand.
“Same,” Reaper says.
“I think we’re all in agreement on that,” Scar says.
“I’d rather we didn’t discuss that monster while we’re eating,” Nina says before turning to me.“Aren’t your parents supposed to be here soon? They’re coming today, right?”
“Anytime now.”
“Do you still think it’s safe for Angie to go back to their house?” Talon asks.
“I called some guys I know in Billings. They’re going to keep an eye out for Angie and her parents until we deal with Blackstone for good.” Scar gives me a nod.
“Thank you. It means so much to me that you care about her enough to put your neck out like that,” I say.
“Not a problem. If those guys called us for help, we’d ride out to assist with anything they needed done. That’s what clubs do. We’re one big family.” Scar smiles.
“Well, I appreciate it.”
The doorbell rings. Nina goes to answer it. When she returns, my parents are trailing behind her.
“Mom!” I get up slower than I’d like to but manage to stand without inducing another headache. Wrapping my arms around her, I cling to her. I’ve missed her so much. Since I’ve been undercover, I haven’t been able to call her every week like I used to.
“Hey, pumpkin.” Dad joins the hug.“And where’s my littlest girl?”
“Here, Dad!” Angie merges into the family gathering, clinging to us.
“Which one of you is Scar?” Dad asks as he untangles himself from the group.
“Me, sir.” Scar stands to shake Dad’s hand.
“Thank you for protecting my girls.” He turns to Matrix.“You’ll take good care of Daisy, won’t you?”
