Her eyes are teasing as she wraps her arms around my neck. “Guess you’ll just have to find out,” she giggles before sealing her mouth back to mine. I would build her a library with every book she’s ever wanted if it meant I could keep her forever.
I cut her off with my mouth once again. I don’t know how I’ll ever stop kissing her. We have years to make up for.
“You know, I have to admit this isdefinitelythe most expensive first dateever.I drained most of my savings on you. It’s a good thing you’re worth it.”
“Save the best for last for your last first date ever.”
“Oh yeah? That sure of yourself, huh?”
I cradle her head in my hands, supporting the base of her skull.
“We’ve spent years dancing around this, and now I finally have you out in the open to tell the world that you, Brynn Aurora Macallister, are finally mine. If you think I’m doing anything but locking you down forever, you’re fucking nuts.”
I realize I probably shouldn’t have called the woman I love nuts, but if the shoe fits. I’ll make it up to her later, now knowing there will be laters.
Brynn’s eyes widen. “Callum, are you about to—” She tilts her head. “—you know.”
“No.” Although I’d be lying if I said the thought didn’t cross my mind. But Brynn deserves so much more than a spur-of-the-moment proposal. I think I will have my work cut out for me, though, to top the scene I left at the apartment. She sighs in disappointment, but I’m not letting her thoughts get in the way. I grip her chin and tilt it upward so she is forced to look at me. “But make no mistake, Brynn, youaremine—forever—and one day, I will put a ring on your finger and a baby in your belly. And I will spend the rest of my days showing you how much I love you.”
Tears glaze over her blue eyes. Soft droplets trickle down her cheek, and I sweep them away with my thumb.
“Promise?”
I bend her back in a dip, and her grip on me tightens. “I pinky promise. One day you will be Brynn Murphy.”
“I think I like the sound of that,” she whispers before sealing her lips to mine.
