“Is everything okay?” I probed. I looked at her with concern.

Erie shrugged her shoulders.

“Daddy, slow down. I hear the ambulance.” She went silent again until her eyes widened. “You guys have been shot at!”

“Bella, give—” but my sentence was cut short. A bullet whizzed straight through the window, and it hit the water kettle.

“Duck!” I hollered.

Erie

A bullet whizzed past, and the whole kettle flipped in the air. Instantly, our cabin was riddled with bullets. Janeiro grabbed me, and we ducked down, running quickly to the pantry.

He pulled the electrical box lever down, and a secret room replaced the canned goods.

“Bella, just hide in here. I’ll be back. I swear.”

“Ro, what kind of room is this?” I cried. I was scared as hell.

“It’s a panic room, love. I have them built all over the cabin, but right now, I have to go,” he expressed. “The room is fully stocked and protected. You'll be able to see everything with the monitors on the walls.”

I pulled him in for a kiss. The feel of his plush lips brought me a little comfort. It was more than I had a second ago.

“Janeiro, please come back to us,” I pleaded.

“I will, my love. Trust me.” He kissed me then closed the wall on me.

My heart raced, and my palms grew sweaty. I knew he had to handle business, but I wanted him with us where he would be safe, but that wasn’t in Ro’s character.

So, I was forced to live in agony, watching him kill the bad guys that ruined our babymoon. I wobbled over to the monitors. I was able to see everything. The cameras covered damn near every nook and cranny inside the house and outside. I looked on as Janeiro grabbed his guns and twisted on the silencers.

When he was armed and positioned, Ro aimed and killed three of the shooters with precision. He was incredibly skilled and sharp. I walked backward to the queen-size bed present and wrapped the thick blanket around my body.

That blanket was the only physical security I had until Ro came back. I leaned against the headboard and watched my man perform hand-to-hand combat with one of the intruders. Swiftly, Janeiro broke his neck and fired off two bullets into the intruder that tried to backdoor him.

I took my eyes off the screen for a bit and looked around the room. It was fully stocked with all the amenities that one would need in here.I shouldn’t be here much longer.

My gaze flitted back to the screen, but I froze. I couldn’t help the way my body shivered. Tears filled my eyes because I couldn’t see Ro on any camera. I rocked and shook uncontrollably. Where was he? How could he just disappear like that? Hurriedly, I wobbled over to the wall, but there wasn’t a button or lever in sight to open the wall again.

“Ro! Ro! Where are you? Are you okay?” I screamed.

I felt so defeated and hopeless. Where was my man? I walked back to the bed and pounded the pillow while crying harder. My eyes flooded with tears that eventually flowed down my face. I hiccupped and sobbed some more. Where was he? I rocked on my side until I drifted off to sleep.

I felt feather-like kisses all over my face.Damn, I must be in Heaven again, I thought. The kisses increased, and the added pressure to my lips sparked me to open my eyes. My eyes clashed with the beautiful blue eyes I’d grown to adore so much. They cascaded over his toasted caramel complexion, and I just had to make sure I wasn’t seeing shit.

“Am I dreaming?” I inquired out loud to no one in particular.

“No, you’re not dreaming, Bella. You’re Ro is right here,” he whispered softly.

He ran his fingers through my wild curls. Ro kissed me so passionately that I ended up suctioning his tongue like a vacuum. He was real. My kisses were potent and intentional. After we’d gotten our fill of kisses from each other, we pulled apart. I sat up.

“Your eyes are so swollen, Bella. Were you crying? Why, baby?” he asked sincerely.

“When you disappeared from the cameras, I couldn’t see you anymore. I panicked because I thought you were dead.” I sniffled. My tears formed again and rolled down my cheeks.

“Bella, I’ll always be here with you and for you,” he professed. “You never have to doubt that, my love. I’ll do whatever I need to make it back to you and our babies.”
