“Ciao, Bella.”

I turned and exited Erie’s store with her heavily on my mind. Once inside my own store, I strolled past my assistant or handler and headed straight to my office. Dawn was hot on my heels. I plopped down in my chair and looked at her.

“So, what’s the move, boss? You going through with the hit or not?” she questioned, crunching on a red apple.

With one hand tucked in her front jean pocket, Dawn leaned against the doorframe. No matter how many times I told her to dress up and look professional, she still managed to wiggle in some denim or leather somehow. Dawn was beautiful, with dark chocolate skin, a slender build, and a highlighted brown pixie cut that matched her dazzling brown eyes. She played for the other team, though.

“We’re not going through with that hit. If that greedy bastard wants Erie and her family dead, it won’t be by my hands or anyone else connected to me. Reach out to all my connects and spread the word. Make it clear that if anyone from their camps touch a hair on Erie’s family’s head, I will personally see to the annihilation of their lineage. You know I don’t bluff, so make sure this shit is taken care of,” I voiced sternly.

Dawn munched on her apple some more. She examined me with merged brows and a saucy smirk. There was something on her mind. Furthermore, Dawn knew I had cased and observed Erie since the contract hit my inbox a month ago. There was no way I could take out a beautiful soul like her. Not to mention, Erie would soon be mine, and I dared a nigga to fuck with her.

Silence was the loudest person in the room until Dawn tossed her apple core in the garbage and snickered.

“Ah, so the little minx has gotten you caught in her crosshairs,” she stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

There was no way I could help the subtle way the arcs of my mouth rose. Our short exchange wasn’t enough for me. I craved to consume all of her, and I would.

“Maybe.” That was the only reply I had for Dawn as of now.

I stood and tugged on the lamp shade on my desk, and the hidden door behind my collection of dress shoes opened. It revealed one of my weapons cases. I collected what I needed and placed them inside my leather designer duffel bag and closed the door back.

“Your car is waiting for you in the alley. Navy is also waiting for you with the rest of your gear. Be safe, and I’ll be in touch as soon as you land,” Dawn affirmed.

I saluted her and walked out the side door in my office. Swiftly, I hopped in my car and sped off with Erie on my mind.

Three

Janeiro

My leather designer bag was draped over my shoulder as I entered my family’s private jet. It was necessary to have our own jet since my uncle and aunt performed the same missions as I did.

“Good afternoon, Janeiro. Right this way,” Navy greeted me and gestured.

Navy was head of my family’s security team. He was fifteen years older than me and swifter with his piece than any veteran that I knew. There was no one who took their job more serious than him apart from me. Navy had dark chocolate skin with a bald head that shined brightly all season long. He matched me in height, but I was definitely more toned.

“Good to see you as well, Navy.”

We shook hands. Afterward, I made my way to my seat and removed my coat. Navy went back to his sweep of the plane. I was sure he’d done that ten times already, but Navy lived by the motto that you could never be too careful. I rotated my neck in a counterclockwise direction then cracked my knuckles.

“Janeiro, we’re taking off in five minutes. Do you need anything beforehand?” Navy inquired.

“I’m good.”

“Alright then. I’ll return when we take off.” Navy bowed and turned away from me.

I leaned against the plush material of the airplane’s seats and closed my eyes. My thoughts went straight to Erie. Earlier may have been our first physical encounter, but I’d observed her since she first opened her café.

There was ambition written all over her beautiful face. I watched her day and night as she combed over every detail before she opened her doors. Some days, she had a pencil tucked behind her ear with some hot concoction steaming in front of her. As time went on, I noticed her clientele increase.

The added lounge was definitely a great idea. I was certain residuals flowed in nicely because there was a party a few times out of the month. On certain days of the week, there were day parties as well. I didn’t know how she did it because she made everything look so easy. I could tell she had an amazing support team behind her. My thoughts were interrupted by Navy’s heavy Haitian accent.

“We’re taking off now.”

If you didn’t know Navy, he seemed like a really domineering man. Looks could definitely be deceiving because underneath that façade was a man who was full of life and very caring. Although, when I first entered the assassin world, he and my uncle didn’t take it easy on my ass. Together, they trained and trained me until I was ready to strike out on my own for my first assignment. When I got my first taste, I’d been addicted ever since.

I reached into my bag and grabbed the folder as the airplane made its rocky ascent into the air. There was a picture of my next target, Marteen Vetti. He had a rap sheet longer than both my arms. There was a two-million-dollar price for his head. Apparently, Marteen liked to solicit female minors for sex. WhenI killed, I made sure my targets were worth more than the money I was paid. I was granted with the utmost satisfaction that another piece of shit would be removed from this world.

Marteen owned a nightclub in Miami called Privy. Your wallet had to be on another level to get in. Black cards with no limit were a start. That was how exclusive and private it was. Police and city officials were on his trail, yet they didn’t have the evidence needed to take him down. Most of his employees and people in his inner circle feared him. So, naturally, it was impossible to build a case against him. Fortunately, the right hunter was on his trail. I was about to handle what they couldn't.
