The hair from his legs tickled hers, and she felt his cock brushing against her core. He lowered his head to kiss her. Her breasts tingled from being pressed against his chest.
She sighed, snaking her arms around his neck to pull him closer. Contentment mingled with lust to settle in her body. She may be in his bed in his house that was meant to only be his temporary dwelling, but she felt like she was home. Being with Wings, being intimate with him, having moments where they shared and laughed, it made her feel more alive than she ever felt before. She intended to savor it for however long it lasted. Because her luck may be running better than good now, but she knew from experience that it could flip on a dime.
A couple of minutes passed before she registered the ringing of her cell phone. Wings’ hands roamed her body, and she decided to let the call go to voicemail. Until she remembered.
She turned her head to break the kiss, and her hands covered his to stop their delicious seduction. “Wait. I need to get that. It’s Liv.”
“What?”
She tried to wiggle out from under him, and eventually he rolled over to release her. She rose from the bed, forgetting to feel insecure about her naked body. She searched for her jeans.
“It’s Liv. I convinced her to take a risk with Dex and take their relationship to the next level. She’s supposed to propose to him tonight, and she swore she’d call afterward.”
“Do you think she went through with it?”
Courtlyn pulled her phone from the pocket and stared at the screen, oblivious to Wings’ question. Her brow furrowed as she wondered if she was imagining the name flashing on the screen. She answered it hoping to catch the call before it went to voicemail.
“Mrs. Dobbs? Are you alright?”
Wings sat up in bed and watched her closely, but she ignored his sexiness to focus on why her neighbor would be calling her.
“Courtlyn, have you seen Bogie?”
“Bogie? No, not since I took him for his walk this afternoon. What’s wrong?”
“He got out. The girls were over. We played bridge, and when Lola was leaving, Bogie ran out. We tried to get him. He’s just so fast. But he ran in the direction of your house. I thought, maybe…”
The Corgi was too sneaky for his own good and too energetic to be obedient. Mrs. Dobbs had told Courtlyn about the times Bogie had tried to sneak out when her bridge club members would leave, and she’d always managed to keep him corralled. Courtlyn shouldn’t be surprised that Bogie managed to slip passed them this time.
“Don’t worry, Mrs. Dobbs. We’ll go look for Bogie right now. My boyfriend is with me, so between the two of us, I’m sure we can find him.”
“Thank you, Courtlyn. He usually comes right back after he runs off, but I’m afraid he’s lost. I’m hoping he found his way to your house and is waiting for someone to take him home.”
Courtlyn cradled the phone between her ear and shoulder and pulled on her jeans. “Just sit tight, Mrs. Dobbs, and I’ll let you know when we find him.”
“Thank you. He’s all I have, Courtlyn.”
“I know. Don’t worry. I’m sure we’ll find him.”
She hung up and twirled around the room looking for the bra she’d thrown off earlier. “We need to go. Mrs. Dobbs’ dog got out, and she thinks he ran this way. We need to find him before she has a nervous breakdown. He’s so important to her. I hope he’s not lost.”
She stopped when Wings’ arm wrapped around her waist, his free hand waving her bra in front of her. He kissed her cheek and nuzzled her ear.
“You called me your boyfriend.”
Courtlyn’s eyes widened and then closed. She hadn’t meant to say that out loud. They hadn’t talked to each other about what exactly their relationship was. She knew she cared about him, and she thought of him as her boyfriend. But admitting that out loud before they had the “where is this heading” conversation was a fast way to reach the end of what was the best thing to ever happen to her.
“I, uh, I didn’t mean to…I just didn’t know how else…” She stumbled over her words and clamped her mouth shut.Nope, no clean way out of this.
“I like it,” he murmured against her ear. “We’ll pick this up later.”
Then he released her. She heard him dressing, but she didn’t turn around. She stood still, a ridiculous smile on her face, and savored the moment before recalling why she’d been dressing in the first place. She finished before reaching for his hand.
“Come on. The sooner we find Bogie, the sooner we can get back here.”
They hurried out of his back door, across the yard and to the front of her house. They called for the Corgi, but they didn’t hear any sound nor saw any sign of the dog.
“Maybe we should split up and look for him. I can’t imagine he would wander far.”
