It looked like another one for the next generation of Bluff Creek kids was ready to join this world.
Chapter Thirty
Beth leaned against Flick’s shoulder. It had been a long twenty-four hours. They’d gotten married, had a fantastic reception along with fireworks, followed by not one but both of her sisters going into labor and having their babies.
Sarah had waited to tell everyone she was in labor until after she’d held Amelia, Remi and War’s daughter. She’d waited so long that there wasn’t a possibility of an epidural. Twenty-four minutes after being admitted, Scoop and Sarah welcomed a little boy and named him Noah after Sarah’s dad and Derek after Scoop.
Beth and Flick had just left Sarah’s room after holding Noah and were debating what to do. Most of the kids from the compound were being kept by Slice, Dex, Faith, and Violet. All her sisters and their husbands were here along with her dad, Hope, Baron, Regina, Stella, and Rose. Benji had been very excited to be the only kid allowed to come, but there was no way he wasn’t going to be included. He was their little brother now.
“I’m so tired,” Beth said.
“Me too. Whiskey texted that they had some beds for us to crash in if we wanted to get some sleep before driving back to Bluff Creek,” Flick said, a yawn distorting his words.
It was an hour and a half from Dodge City to Bluff Creek, and she just wanted to be home.
“I really want to sleep in our own bed, but I’m so tired,” Beth said.
“Me too,” Flick replied.
Beth leaned there, dozing, waiting to see if Flick would make a decision. She was too tired.
“Hey sleepyheads, your ride is here,” a voice said, waking Beth.
She rubbed her eyes and stared at the smiles on Gunner and Brody’s faces.
“We’ve got coffee, pastries, along with blankets and pillows in the back seat of the SUV we borrowed,” Gunner said.
Beth stood up and threw her arms around Gunner, hugging him, then hugging Brody while being careful of his injuries.
“You are the best big brothers I could have asked for. I’m starving. So food, then sleep on the way home,” Beth said.
Flick hugged his brothers, and then they let Locks know they were catching a ride back with Flick’s brothers.
“Can I come too? I am done with babies,” Benji whined.
Beth giggled. “Of course. Gunner and Brody said they have breakfast for us.”
Benji whooped and then mouthed sorry to Locks for being loud in the hospital. She held hands with Flick as they left the hospital and followed the guys to the vehicle.
She couldn’t wait to see what was next for them, but she had so many ideas that she’d need Flick to help her decide which ones would be first.
Flick held Beth in his arms on the way back to Bluff Creek. His brothers were chatting quietly because Beth and Benji had both dropped off asleep after they’d eaten.
Flick was tired, but being an EMT, he was used to pushing it off. He was in no way capable of driving, but he wanted to wait until they arrived at home to sleep.
He chuckled, realizing how full their house would be with four adults and five dogs. They weren’t all little dogs either; Desi was a St. Bernard, and Dolly was a German Shepherd.
“Hey, sorry you all had to introduce the new dogs to the family. How did it go?” Flick asked.
Gunner was driving and looked toward Brody in the passenger seat; then they started chuckling.
“What happened?”
“There seemed to be a little bit of a power struggle between two of the dogs deciding who was alpha,” Gunner said, still chuckling.
“Was it Desi and Dolly?” Flick asked.
“No, that’s what was so funny. Lilly is definitely the alpha of the three, and you could see that Desi thought he was going to be. He tried to push Lilly around a little, and she turned around, growled, and nipped his jaw a couple of times. I kid you not, this huge St. Bernard looks at her and lies down. She stared at him, then cuddled up next to him. It was fun to watch their different personalities all interact,” Brody said.
