Winnie and Bear, along with Della and the Cider Creek Chapter, had joined them at the house. It had been two days since the feds had raided the shelter and the appliance warehouse. They’d found over one hundred and fifty women, ranging from fourteen to thirty-three years old.
Despite the raid, Kingpin was having a fundraiser because he’d decided to run for Congress. What he didn’t know was that he and his cohorts were going to be arrested during the party tonight.
With the threads that the MC had given the feds, they’d been able to piece the rest together. It helped that the people they’d arrested at the warehouse and shelter spilled all they knew.
Bootstrap’s acquaintance had called today to tell them they’d figured out why the MC and the bail bonds had been targeted. Junior and Kerwin had found out about Kathryn’s Wings and how they helped women. They’d wanted to expand their reach through Kansas up into Nebraska along Interstate 35 and hadworried that the bail bonds secret organization and the MC would impede them.
Beth had been concerned at first, but the only thing Junior and Kerwin had known about how the organization helped people was from a woman who had a friend who had gone through Kathryn’s Wings. They’d been searching for more, which was why Kerwin had targeted Beth to date. From all indications, the houses and people who worked with Kathryn’s Wings were still hidden and safe.
Beth had breathed a sigh of relief that their organization hadn’t been compromised. Now they were just waiting to see the arrests, then they were heading back to Bluff Creek.
“Showtime, folks! The prospect just saw five government SUVs pass the gatehouse along with two sheriff’s deputy cars,” Bootstrap said, chuckling.
Beth leaned against Flick, looking out the window to the party taking place around Kingpin’s pool.
She giggled along with everyone else as the party was swarmed with officers. Kerwin tried to run, and one of the deputies took him down on the cement around the pool. Kingpin tried to explain it away, but in no time at all, those three, along with fifteen other people attending the party, were in cuffs.
“Well, it looks like Kerwin and Junior got what they deserved. I knew that creepy guy Smithson at the gate had to be involved. I loved seeing the fed chase him, then tackle him into the pool. I call that a job well done, don’t you, Rose?” Beth asked.
Rose grinned. “Oh yes. I finally feel like this chapter of my life is closed. Not sure what is next, but the peace I feel is wonderful. How’s it feel seeing Kerwin in cuffs?” Rose asked.
“Perfect. Now, let’s head home. I don’t want to miss any of the preparations for the Fourth of July,” Beth said.
“Nope, we have something to do first,” Flick said, grabbing her hand and leading her out of the house. She followed. He had four pieces of poster board in his hands.
She laughed. Flick was like the Pied Piper because everyone was following him without knowing what they were doing. He paused at the end of their street, then moved her onto the curb, handing her a sign. He motioned Rose over and handed her one too.
“Here they come. I figured it would be so much more satisfying if they knew who helped take them down,” Flick said, motioning to their signs.
Beth chuckled when she read hers. Her man knew her so well.
“Don’t mess with the Franks Sisters!”
Rose smiled and thanked Flick when she saw hers.
“Bluff Creek Brotherhood MC hopes you enjoy life in a cage.”
Winnie’s read,“Life Behind Bars Suits You!”
Della read hers and then showed everyone.“Hope you experience exactly what you did to women.”
“Here they come,” Flick yelled.
Beth held up her sign so Kerwin, Junior, and Kingpin could see it well. Flick and Bootstrap must have arranged it ahead of time because the windows were down on the side closest to where they were standing, and the arrestees were on their side. Most of the MC guys were clapping and yelling as the FBI drove the arrestees out of the neighborhood.
“Well, that was satisfying,” Beth said, grabbing Flick’s shirt and pulling him close to claim his lips, telling him exactly how much she appreciated what he’d planned.
She released his lips and stared into his eyes.
“Anything for you,” Flick said.
Flick drove the last miles to the clubhouse. He was driving Beth, Rose, and Della back. Bear was driving Winnie back. Gunner was riding his motorcycle behind them. Flick felt good about what they’d done.
When they’d left here weeks ago, they’d been worried enough that they’d had Halligan, Dex, and Quinton on standby. Instead, they’d ended up just needing a lot of people for surveillance, which Flick was thankful for.
His time away had shown him a new side of his best friend, and they were coming back to Bluff Creek as a couple. He’d found the love of his life. Now he needed to talk to her dad and figure out a proposal that would befit the woman she was.
Because he could work in any of the businesses, and he was only an EMT to help people and to keep his skills up, he was going to change his hours. He wanted to work when she did because there was no reason to be gone all the time when he wanted to spend it with her.
