I thought for sure it would take me awhile to fall asleep but that wasn't the case. It only took a few minutes for sleep to take me under.
CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Graham
Bullshit did Sarah like her space when she slept. She was wrapped around me like a boa constrictor ready to devour its prey.
Not that I particularly minded. In fact, I was enjoying the fact that she was rubbing against me. A very specific part of mereallyliked that she was practically humping my leg. I could only imagine what kind of dream she was having, and with any luck, I would be starring in that dream.
Unfortunately, luck was never on my side, so instead of waking Sarah up gently and seeing how she reacted to our precarious situation, she was woken up by a pounding on the door. Followed by "Rise and shine, asshole."
I was going to kill Rhett when I got my hands on him.
"Oh God. Oh no." Sarah scrambled off me and all the way across the bed. She moved so far over that before I knew it, she was falling off the bed. I tried to lean over and grab her arm but she was flailing them through the air. "Eek!" was the last I heard before her body hit the floor.
I leaned my head over the bed to find her disheveled body sprawled out in the large space. "You okay?"
"I've been better. What are the chances whoever is out there didn't hear me fall on my ass?" she asked a little louder than a whisper, but knowing my friends, they still heard her. My assumption was confirmed when Rhett hollered back, "Slim to none!"
I shook my head. "That would be Rhett. He's the youngest of six, and believe me, nothing gets by him. I think it's a byproduct of his older siblings constantly torturing him."
"I heard that, asshole. Now get your ass out here so that we can see your ugly mug or I'm coming in."
Some days I wondered why I dealt with this group. Then I remembered my divorce and knew without a shadow of a doubt that I would be lost without them. They were the only reason I didn't kill Charmaine or her sleazy lawyer.
"We better get out there before he makes good on his threat."
I slid off the bed and reached my hand out to help her up. It made me feel good when she took it without pause. Then I remembered what she was wearing and groaned. "William couldn't have found you something a little . . . longer?"
"I don't have to go out there. They’re only looking to see you," she was quick to remind me.
"Nope, you need to come out here too, sweetheart!" Rhett yelled through the door before I could answer her.
I growled at the sentiment which only earned me a chuckle from the other side of the door. "I better get out there before I kill him."
Sarah smiled at me. "Please don't kill your friend on my account."
If only she knew I would slice down my friend in a heartbeat for her, but I wasn't ready to admit that out loud. I could barely think it without shivering.
I didn't bother to answer her. Instead, I walked across the room with her hand still in mine. I dropped it before opening the door, only because I didn't want to make her any more uncomfortable in front of my men than she probably already was.
As soon as I opened the door, the first thing I saw was Rhett's smiling face staring back at me. Before I could think better of it, I slammed my fist in his stomach causing him to double over in a coughing fit.
"What the hell was that for?" he asked between sputters.
I leaned down and whispered in his ear. "You know exactly what that's for." I stood back up and caught Sarah's smirk. She too understood why I did it.
Standing behind Rhett was the rest of the team.
"Sarah, I would like to introduce you to my team. The dickhead I punched is Rhett. This here is our team leader, Matthew. The one in the ball cap is Parker. The broody one is Logan. Don’t expect him to talk much. He rarely talks to anyone if he doesn’t have to. And lastly is Josh.”
"Nice to meet you all." Sarah gave a little wave.
Everyone on my team, even Rhett, kept their eyes at a respectable level on Sarah's face which made me happy. They clearly got the message loud and clear, when I punched Rhett, that she was off-limits.
"Glad to see you alive and in one piece." Matthew spoke up first. "It was a rough few days there after the crash."
"Yeah, the reports are saying there are no survivors. Did you happen to see anyone else?" Josh asked.
