“No, you won’t,” Bodie said as she caught up the bag. “You hang here. Not sure where that dude in the tank’s at, but you’re not out of my sight until he’s found.”

Elaine rolled her eyes. “Yes, sir.”

Knight winked at her and followed us out to Baker’s car.

Baker’s car that was now decorated in white lettering on all of the windows.

“Wow,” Baker said as she saw the writing. “That’s impressive.”

“The ladies thought you might want to scream that you’re a married woman from the rooftop like they did,” Knight snorted. “I made them stop at adding cans on strings.”

“Thank you,” I murmured as I put everything in the back hatch before allowing Baker to slide down to her feet. “Good to have you home, brother.”

Knight shook my proffered hand. “Good to be back. And I’m really glad I got to be here to witness you getting married. I’m tired of missing all the good stuff.”

I helped my wife—fuckin’ goddamn did that feel good to say—into the car and then headed around the front of the truck.

“Keys?” I asked.

“They were in the purse that you put in the back, but since this isn’t a relic, you don’t need them up front with you to start it,” Baker teased.

I pressed the start button and it purred to life.

“Too used to the Cutlass.” I chuckled as I put it in Drive and headed to the houseboat.

“You know, I’ve always wanted to go here,” she said as I pulled into the lane that led to the houseboat twenty minutes later. “It looks pretty awesome.”

“Cutter and Chevy did a lot of work to it over the years to make it habitable again,” I explained as I got out and headed to her door. She went to step down but I caught her up in my arms and carried her bridal style to the door. “I always talked about making a life in this houseboat when I was in prison. It was my ultimate goal, to get back here and live.”

Her face fell.

“But I found that it wasn’t the exact place that I was yearning for…just a place to actually belong,” I said. “And you showed me that the place where I belong is wherever you and Holt are.”

Her face turned soft. “Take me inside already, Copper. It’s time to show you where you belong again.”

I winked and opened the door and set her down just over the threshold. “I’m going to grab our clothes.” I dropped a kiss to her mouth. “And the cake.”

“Why do you have that look on your face, Copper Cyrus?” she called at my back as I headed back for the car.

I caught up her purse, the food, and the cake before heading back inside.

I placed everything but the cake down on the counter and crooked my finger at her.

Her eyes lit with excitement as she came closer to me. “What?”

I swiped up another bit of icing, next to the one she’d done earlier, and reached out to paint her lips with it.

She darted her tongue out to lick it away, but before she could get it all, I slammed my mouth down onto hers.

She moaned into my mouth, her body leaning into mine.

Our wet clothes plastered to each other as we sank into our kiss.

She pulled me down by my collar, and I dropped the cake onto the counter before hoisting her up onto the hip-height bar top.

A gust of wind had the house shaking under us, causing her to pull away with glee in her eyes.

“This is so cool.” She zeroed back in on my lips. “You have a little bit of icing right…” She bent forward and licked the corner of my mouth. “There.”
