So much that it drives me crazy.
But she’s always maintained a very large wall of emotional distance between us, so I haven’t ever been able to test out how she might feel about me in return.
And right now, seeing her so concerned about my face makes me want to pull her close and do some very unprofessional things with her.
She opens the first-aid kit and gets out some Q-tips and antiseptic cream. After meticulously coating a Q-tip with the cream, she sits me on the couch and then kneels in front of me, leaning in close so that she can dab the cuts on my face.
The pain is enough to make me wince, but I’m distracted by her presence again. How can we have gone from never touching to having all these close encounters in one afternoon?
I watch her face as she concentrates on attending to one of the cuts. God, her eyes are beautiful—a unique shade of blue-green that I don’t think I’ve ever seen anywhere else.
Her skin has a lovely pink glow, and her lips… damn it. I should not have looked at her lips. My cock stirs as I think about her lips on mine… and potentially other parts of my body.
I’m actually quite grateful for Carrie’s presence, because it means I don’t have to think about the damage to my car or how it happened.
Her breathing is soft, and I feel it on my cheek as she continues to dab the cut. After a moment, she says quietly, “How did this happen?”
Should I tell her? It might freak her out. Both the fact I’ve revealed something personalandthe actual reason.
I inhale deeply. “So…”
My laptop rings with a Zoom call.
“I… I should probably get that,” I say, reluctantly pulling away.
“Of course. And I should go. You’ll need to rest, and I don’t want to get in your way.”
She starts to stand, but I stop her. “Let me just check if the call is important, and then I’ll see you out.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“I just want to make sure you leave safely.”
I don’t know if that even really makes sense, but I don’t want her to go yet.
I answer the call on my laptop, which is open on the dining table.
It’s my neighbor, Patrick. Although, the word neighbor is used quite loosely here. He lives half a mile down the road.
Before I get a word in, he starts talking. “Why aren’t you answering your phone?”
“I don’t currently have it on me. Why?”
“Are you at home?”
“Yes. Again, why?”
“I wasn’t sure if you were aware the roads were flooded. I’m stuck on the other side of Grange Pass, so I won’t be able to get home tonight. You’ll probably want to stay in for the rest of the evening and avoid driving. I wouldn’t be surprised if the road ends up damaged with the amount of water rushing over it. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“Oh, right. I didn’t have any plans to leave tonight…” I look over at Carrie, who is standing near the front door. “Hey, I have to go, but thanks for the heads-up. Stay safe.”
“Okay. You too.”
I feel like the universe really wants to help me out today. I shouldn’t be so pleased that Carrie is now going to be stuck here against her will, but I can’t help it.
“All good?” Carrie asks.
“Actually, that was my neighbor. He just called to say he’s stuck at the edge of town because the roads are flooded. It looks like you might have to stay here for a while.”
