This time, his kisses didn’t stop, filling a need inside me that I hadn’t known was there. Tiny moans escaped as his tongue swept my mouth and his hands worked their way between my legs.

“What am I gonna do with you?” He moaned, breaking our kiss to lean over and grabbed a new condom from the pack he’d purchased around midnight. Yes, Ethan had gotten dressed and jogged the quarter mile to find a petrol station open just to buy us condoms after we’d used the two he carried in his wallet.

“Anything you want.” I waited until he was sheathed and then wrapped my legs around his hips. “As long as it’s also what I want.”

“Yes, boss.”

I loved the way he could laugh and joke, seconds before kissing the hell out of me. But as I helped him slide inside, all joking disappeared. This was the Ethan I wanted to explore; the man who looked at me with an intense passion and bit his lip each time he drove me into the mattress.

It was as if he was afraid of his strength, that his passion would be too much. But it only made me grip him tighter, hold him firmer, and chase his lips. If he was going to bite anyone’s lips, I wanted them to be mine, not his.

I wanted to feel all his emotions, not just the ones he put on display.

His kisses were hungry, and the bed jolted with each thrust of his hips, but his fingers were gentle as they worked their way around my breasts. The man drove me wild with the different sensations. But why did he ignore my nipples? They’d been puckered and ready for his attention, but he was all about the soft flesh.

My legs dropped down as he changed angle and used my breast for leverage to get up on one arm.

Holy bat shit.I yelped when he hit my spot. All it had taken was the right angle and thrust and my body wanted to explode.

“You like that?” He’d stopped kissing me and looked at me like a fighter who’d just won by KO. “How about this?”

At last, my nipple was rewarded for patience. He wrapped his lips around it, playing the peak with his tongue while his dick hit my spot over and over again. I couldn’t wait for him to climax. I couldn’t hold on. Wave after wave tore through me as I reached my fourth—or was it fifth—orgasm in twelve hours.

My body responded to each of his touches. My nerves were on fire and my body convulsed at his whim.

I felt him come as my tremors subsided. He collapsed on top of me, and we just held each other, capturing our breath.

“What the hell was that?” I asked, still coming down from my high.

“I don’t know,” Ethan said rolling to the side and removing his condom. “But can we do it again?”

“What have you got planned for the rest of the weekend?” Ethan asked, kissing my cheek and wiping light brown strands of hair from my face as he got back into bed after using the bathroom. “Are you going out to see your horses?”

“Maybe tomorrow, but today I’ll stick around town.” I didn’t want to scare Ethan off with explanations about today’s date.

“And what has the exciting town of Meringa got in store today?”

“For starters, the Meringa Rural Fire Service is having a meat pie eating fundraiser and volunteer sign-up at the pub.” I looked to see if Ethan would offer to join me. No. His expression remained blank. “Old Man Hobbs always puts on some live music afterward with free entry to anyone who signs up or offers up a donation.”

“Hmm.” Ethan seemed more interested in counting the freckles along my inner thighs with his lips. I appreciated his dedication to my body, but didn’t he understand how important the RFS was? Every summer, the only people standing between Meringa and a blazing inferno were the RFS volunteers.

“Have you?” I pushed his hand away, which at least got his attention.

“Have I, what?”

He rolled onto his side, resting on one elbow, pretending to listen and care. With a captive audience, I pressed my case, “I get why you didn’t sign up when you first came to town. You didn’t know us, and you didn’t know how important the RFS is.” I linked my fingers between his. “But now you do. Reece is the brigade captain. Most of the team are members—that’s how I know them. I do work on their trucks and man the radios during the bushfire season.”

“No.”

He withdrew his hand. I tried not to take it personally. But damn it, anything connected to the RFS was personal, especially today. Daddy … no. I’d think about him when I got home and then I’d go to the fundraiser and bathe in the love of my community and friends.

“No, you haven’t, yet?” I needed him to give me a reason not to walk out of the door and his life. Ethan had talked aboutdie-on-the-hilltopics, and this was mine. How could he not see this was more than just volunteering or the RFS? How could Ethan not understand, or try to understand?

“No.”

“What does,no,mean?”

“Exactly what you think it means.” Did he mean to lean away from me? The room suddenly felt colder and not just from the air conditioner. I reached for the sheets, needing something between my naked body and his attitude. “No means, no. I haven’t signed up, and hell will literally freeze over before I put my balls on the line for some other bastard while protecting his property that should be insured.”
