But I knew, I just fucking knew, I needed to be the best me I could be, and all to impress his mother.
Scary thought on multiple accounts.
Chapter eleven
Alec
Itook a deep breath as I sat outside my car, waiting for Skylar. I wasn’t sure why she said yes. Hell, I wasn’t sure why my mom wanted to see her. Sure, I was married. But my mom knew this woman because it wasn’t like I was mum about someone who disliked me so much.
However, all my mom said was that she had to meet Skylar. That someone wouldn’t turn down an invitation if the party was for them.
“I didn’t know what your mom liked, or what was being cooked, so I got a red and white wine. And if they don’t like wine, I got rum!”
I looked her over, my jaw dropping slightly. She wore a pair of jeans shorts that highlighted her golden legs, a black tank, and a jean jacket over it. It wasn’t a revealing outfit; in fact, it covereda lot. But this was a gorgeous woman and anything on her was downright sexy.
“Uh, no, they’ll love it. My dad will take the wine, my mom the rum.” I opened the passenger door for her, letting her get in. “But you didn’t need to do that.”
She looked up at me before I closed the door, her brow raised.
“Oh, yes I did.”
I let that sink in for a moment before I rounded the car and got in myself. Skylar probably understood my family dynamic better than I did. And though that thought should scare me, it really didn’t.
“Okay, let’s get you off to meet the clan.”
“Holy hell, everyone is here, huh?”
I wrapped my arm around her, lending her my support. I knew everyone was coming, they all wanted to meet my wife, and I had told her it was a family deal. It’s not quite my fault she didn’t put it all together.
“It’s all for you. My mom just about had my ass that I got married and hadn’t brought you around. And even though we know what our plans are, they don’t. So, let’s leave it that way.”
She only nodded in response as my mom walked over.
“Mijo,” she said, lightly touching my arm, her smile big as she looked at the woman at my side. “Your bride is beautiful.”
“Skylar, Mama D, as all my friends call her. Yes, mama, my wife, Skylar.”
“Welcome to the family, mija,” she told her, bringing Skylar in for a hug.
“Thank you. I didn’t know what you drank, so I got a little bit of everything,” Sky told her, handing her the bag.
Mom peeked into it, a smile on her face. “Oh, I like her already. Come, let me introduce you to the family.” With that, my mom took Skylar’s arm, leading her around the backyard.
“She’s a looker.”
I glanced over at my sister as she walked up, a smile on her face.
“Yes, she is,” I told her, taking the beer she offered.
“Is that the spitfire that almost took away your future kids?”
I glared at her, wanting to put her in a headlock when she laughed at my look.
“Go away, Jessie,” I muttered, which only caused her to laugh even more.
“Tio Alec!”
I turned around at the scream, as did everyone else, and watched as my three-year-old niece ran out the back door and straight over to me.
