“They’re pretty fucking huge.” A wicked smile spread across Gemini’s lips. “And we had these windows thoroughly steamed.” He could smell Frost’s blush. “Come on. I’ll heat up dinner and put you to bed. I can feel your exhaustion.” Gemini could have bitten off his tongue, but Frost didn’t call him on it. He slid from the truck and walked with Gemini to the door. Gemini told himself he would behave. His mate needed care. He could give him that.
Chapter Three
WatchingGeminimovearoundthe kitchen, washing dishes after eating an amazing meal, did something to his chest. With Craig, he had been the one who did all the care. Gemini refused to let him help. There had always been a part of him that realized he was being used by his ex, but seven years was a long time, and Frost hadn’t been totally miserable. He hadn’t been happy either.
Gemini’s house suited him. It was manly in every way and in the middle of nowhere. The quick tour Gemini had given him while dinner heated had showed him three bedrooms. One completely unused. His living room had high ceilings, and his kitchen was an eat-in. There was a garage next to the house that was twice the size of the house, proving what was closest to his heart wasn’t in here.
“How much land do you have out here?”
Gemini glanced over his shoulder. “About two hundred acres.”
“I get the feeling you like your privacy.”
Gemini chuckled. “Just a little. Plus, I just enjoy the outdoors. I do a lot of hunting and whatnot.”
Frost nodded. That didn’t surprise him. There was something about Gemini. He moved like a predator. There were times when Gemini looked at him, and moved his way, that made Frost feel stalked. He always half expected Gemini to pounce. Frost wasn’t sure he was opposed.
“That’s a massive garage out there, especially since your trucks are parked outside.” Even to his ears, Frost sounded nosey. He just wanted to know everything about Gemini.
A bark of laughter burst from Gemini. “The guy I bought this place from was a mechanic. He ran his business from home. It’s almost completely empty out there now. The automatic system for the bay door is broken, and I haven’t gotten around to fixing it. I guess I should get on that, so your SUV doesn’t have to sit out in the weather.”
God. He was so fucking confident. Granted, someone who looked like him had every right. “I’m decent at fixing things, if you’d like me to take a look at it.”
Gemini crossed the room and pulled Frost to his feet. “That doesn’t surprise me. From what people are saying, you have an impressive reputation for fixing people.”
“People are talking about me?”
“Of course,” Gemini said, as if it should be obvious. “You’re the new guy. Everyone wants to know more, especially me. Time for bed.”
Frost glanced down at his scrubs. “Maybe I should head home. I don’t have anything else to wear or a toothbrush or anything. Plus, I have to work tomorrow. I don’t want you to have to leave early to run me home and then back to the hospital where we left my SUV.” He knew he was rambling, but they had literally just met and now Gemini talked about going to bed.
Gemini kissed him, wiping away every argument. By the time he leaned away, Frost had forgotten his every worry. Gemini kissed his nose. “You’re tired. I just want to hold you. I have to work tomorrow too, so it’s nothing to drive you around. There’s an extra toothbrush around here somewhere. Just trust me to take care of you.”
Damn. Frost had no idea why, but he trusted Gemini with everything inside him. It was like he didn’t exist before they met. He had no idea what was happening to him, but he didn’t think he wanted it to stop.
Gemini couldn’t stop following Frost everywhere. He didn’t want to let his other half out of his sight. Frost’s confusion beat at Gemini’s brain. If Frost was from their world, they would already be fully mated. He would understand this was his life now. But Frost wasn’t like anyone in this town, and he didn’t understand why he felt so much for Gemini. Gemini was scared shitless Frost might run.
After Frost disappeared inside the bathroom for a shower and whatnot, Gemini hung out in bed, staring at the bathroom door like an insane person. That was what he felt like—crazed. When the bathroom door opened, Gemini took a breath. He was okay. Frost was still here. Frost turned the light off, plunging them into darkness. Since Gemini could see perfectly in the dark, he got his first good look at Frost. In nothing but a pair of thin pajama shorts Gemini had loaned him, he was sexy as hell. Itwas obvious he worked out. He wasn’t bulky. In clothes, no one could tell how much yumminess hid just out of sight. Gemini hoped like hell he could keep his word about this being a just sleeping thing.
The bed dipped and Gemini lost the battle against himself. He reached out and hauled Frost into his arms. A laugh cut through the air as Gemini tucked Frost against his side. The sound died when Gemini found his lips. Their tongues played. Gemini’s body demanded more. His fangs were again trying to make an appearance. Thankfully, he was old enough to control himself. He slowed things down.
Gemini kissed Frost’s cheek. “I set the alarm for six. That should give us plenty of time in the morning.”
Frost’s ragged breathing had Gemini’s claws appearing. He had to fight harder against the beast. His mate needed release, and Gemini couldn’t do that yet. It was like setting his own guts on fire. That didn’t stop him from curling himself around Frost and closing his eyes. He would sleep and nothing else if it was the last damn thing he did.
Minutes ticked by.
Frost’s breathing returned to normal.
The pain in Gemini’s chest eased.
“Gemini.”
A smile tugged at his lips at the sound of Frost’s whisper. “Yeah?”
“Thank you.”
If he couldn’t hear Frost’s thoughts, he might have asked why. But the sweetest words caressed his brain, appreciating everything about him. His throat swelled. He had never been more humbled than he was in that moment. Celeste had really given him this amazing person, and Gemini knew he didn’t deserve it. He would, though. “You never need to thank me. I’m exactly where I’ve always wanted to be.” Gemini hoped Frost didn’t ask him to explain because he couldn’t. Thankfully, he felt Frost’s acceptance. He felt the same. They would find their way.
