Frost’s sexy smile nearly took out Gemini’s knees. He had deep lines around his mouth. His sexy green eyes crinkled in the corners. Gemini fought a sigh. “Again? Jesus. Surely this has never happened in the history of ever. I can’t imagine this happening again.”
“That’s true. Let me give you my number anyhow, and we’ll have dinner when you get off tonight.”
Frost’s feet froze. He didn’t move at all—like prey hiding from a predator. That was exactly what he was—prey. “Um. Sure. I guess. I mean, I don’t really know anyone in town, so it’s probably good for me to make friends.”
Gemini fought a growl at getting called a friend. Still, Frost hadn’t shut him down. His foot was in the door. That was one step closer to claiming his mate.
“I get off at seven. Is that okay? I think things close pretty early around here.”
“No worries. I’ll give you my address. I can cook for you.” Gemini fought hard to keep the satisfied purr from his voice at the thought of feeding his mate.
Frost stared at him. All hints of nervousness disappeared while he openly studied Gemini. “I’m gay.”
That sudden pronouncement confused the fuck out of Gemini. “Okay.” He dragged out the word, unsure of how he should react.
That’s what I thought. Straight. He doesn’t even get I’m trying to clarify things.
Frost’s thoughts hit him so hard and fast, he couldn’t tell if it was Frost’s or his disappointment washing over him.
Gemini spent a moment rallying. He had heard stories of mates reading each other’s thoughts. Some said if mates were together long enough, they forgot to bother speaking aloud. It was hot as hell actually hearing his mate inside his head, except he didn’t like what he heard.
He focused on Frost and pushed his thoughts in the man’s direction. Gemini didn’t know if a human would hear him or if Gemini would have to claim him first. Still, he tried.Sexuality doesn’t exist. That’s a human thing. A social construct.
For a second, Frost looked confused as fuck.
Gemini fought a smile. Frost had heard him. Still, Gemini didn’t want any misunderstandings. “This is a date. I thought I had made the whole flirting thing clear, but obviously not.”
The blushing was back. “Oh. Okay. I didn’t want any misunderstandings.”
Fair.
Frost blinked.
Gemini kept his smile bland. “I’ll see you when you get off.” He started to walk away.
A whimper that wasn’t his ran through his mind.Jesus. That ass.
Gemini fought a laugh as he quickly turned back Frost’s way, catching Frost checking him out. “I forgot. You need my phone number and address.”
A sexy laugh burst from Frost. “Yeah. I’ll probably need that.”
Frost dug his phone from his back pocket. They quickly exchanged info. When Gemini finally walked away, he had to massage his chest. Now that he knew Frost existed, he wouldn’t feel whole until he claimed him. Gemini had zero fucking clue how to go about that without scaring the fuck out of the guy. A huge grin still spread across his face. He had a mate. It was a blessing only someone from their world could understand. It meant never walking alone again. Gemini could never thank Celeste enough.
Chapter Two
FrostbeingFrost, heoverthought the entire day for his whole shift. His morning had been so strange. Apparently, if nothing else, he had made friends. He texted back and forth with Deidra several times throughout the day. Apparently, his cobra call had bonded them for life.
“Dr. Hymal. It looks like we’ll be seeing each other all over the place.”
Frost handed off his patient orders for the night and glanced toward the voice. He got his first solid view of Waylon.
“Officer… Waylon.” Frost laughed. “Sorry. I only remember your first name.”
“It’s Black, but you can just call me Waylon.” His smile was nice. Everything about him looked big and nice—like a cuddly teddybear. He had obviously picked a town full of eye candy. “Waylon, it is. What brings you in tonight?”
“Work.”
That made sense. Police were a common sight at the ER.
