His mouth crashed into mine. I let out a small moan and basked in the moment. His hands ran tenderly across my back, and I tugged on that gorgeous hair of his.
“Before we take this any further, there’s one more thing I’ve got to do,” he said, pulling back.
Asher rushed forward, handing him a guitar.
“You never gave me the chance to sing this song for you,” Justin said.
“Aren’t you going to steal Asher and Layla’s thunder?” I asked.
“No one can steal my thunder today, lovely. Don’t worry about it,” Layla called out to me, putting her arm around her husband and beaming with joy.
Justin strummed his guitar. I couldn’t stop the happy tears from falling down while he serenaded me with the most beautiful words anyone had ever spoken to me.
When the last notes had faded, I ran into his arms.
Around us people were murmuring in excited tones, and the DJ sent the starting notes of a love ballad into the ether. The dance floor filled up with other couples, but I only had eyes for my man.
Justin’s mouth left mine, only for a moment, and he cupped my face with his hand. He let his thumb run over my lips, just like he’d done when we first kissed. “I love you too, Addy.”
Then his mouth found mine again and I let myself get lost in his kiss, exploring every inch of him. Loving someone had never felt this good.
Epilogue
Two years later
“And you know Kermit has a vet’s appointment next week, right?” I asked, feeling nervous about leaving my cute animals behind for ten days. Kermit had grown into a full-sized alpaca now, and I enjoyed cuddling him.
Carter put his hand on his hip. “Addy, relax. I’m going to take great care of Kermit, Duckota, and the rest of the furry gang. You shouldn’t stress about veterinarian’s appointments or feeding schedules. You’re flying to L.A. for the Oscars, for crying out loud!”
I grinned. “I know, right? Do you think he’ll get it?”
“Who will get what?” Justin’s mesmerizing voice reached me, and I spun around.
“Hey, you,” I said. I closed my eyes and we kissed, taking our sweet time. “You taste like cookies.”
He laughed. “You keep baking them. What’s a guy to do?”
“Carter and I were just talking about the Oscars. Personally, I think you’re going to win.”
Justin put his arm around my shoulder. “You’re only saying that because it’s your obligation to support me.”
“My obligation?”
“Yeah, because you’re my wife,” he said.
I beamed at him. “I know, I just wanted to hear you say it again.”
“What, wife?”
Carter rolled his eyes at us, but only in mock irritation. “You two are disgustingly cute, do you know that?”
“Yep,” Justin said. “But I’m afraid we don’t have a lot of time to talk about that. Our flight leaves in two hours and we still have to drive to the airport.”
Carter pulled me into a hug. “Be safe and don’t think about home, okay? The petting zoo’s in good hands with me.”
“Thanks, Carter.”
We waved goodbye and walked toward my house – excuse me, our house – to get our suitcases and load them into the car.
