“What are you doing here?” I ask him mildly so as not to come off harshly or in an accusing tone.

“I heard a commotion and smelled werewolf blood, so I came to investigate,” he answers. “When I found the source, you had started to move out of the shadows.”

“Surprised you didn’t try to swoop in—”

“And be your knight in shining armor again?” he interrupts and ends with a chuckle. “No, I wanted to see whatyou were going to do. Though I was close to stepping in when dickless wonder there threatened to rape you.” A growl rumbles through his chest again at that last statement.

“So, you’re not horrified by what I did here?” I ask, slightly nervous to hear that he is or possibly disgusted. I don’t know why it feels important to hear his answer but it is and I anxiously wait to hear what he thinks.

“No, Talia. I’m not horrified. I would have done something if you didn’t. I don’t tolerate pieces of shit like that picking on weaker or smaller individuals or those who threaten and abuse women. It was…entertaining to watch you handle the situation. To be honest, it was badass and kind of hot.” He smiles mischievously at me.

I smile back. “Good to know you can handle a little blood.”

He chuckles. “I am curious though. Why did you help the wolf?”

“Why not?”

“Because he was a wolf and, typically, vampires tend not to help werewolves. They either join in on the fight or turn a blind eye”

“Just because they ‘typically’ don’t help doesn’t mean I shouldn’t. It was an unfair fight with a shit excuse for one.”

He stares at me intently until he finally does one of those man grunts and nods.

“Is the wolf really going to have a place to stay now?” I ask.

“Do you think I lied to him?”

“No, I guess I’m wondering if your pack will be okay with you inviting a stranger in.”

“Well, considering I am their alpha, I can invite whoever I want to stay in the pack house. He’ll still have to provehimself and earn his place, but I can still offer the choice and opportunity to him.”

Him being alpha isn’t a surprise, but I wanted to confirm my suspicions. “What pack?” That’s the next piece of information I really want to know. To know whether he and his wolves are a threat or not.

“Grimmwolf.”

“You’re the alpha of the most powerful werewolf pack in the city?” I ask a bit stun.

“Does that surprise you?”

The alpha of the Grimmwolf pack is hidden in shadow and mystery. No one has been able to definitively put a face and name to the pack’s leader or who is part of the pack. However, the pack as a whole is revered and feared to an extent. They are not known as a cruel and harsh bunch of wolves but fierce, lethal, and a force to be reckoned with either by wolves or vampires. The pack is considered the most powerful of werewolves in this city. They are equal in power to our coven amongst werewolves and are just as feared and respected. My father has been trying to uncover their members and their allies along with their secrets for years. Taking into consideration what little I know about Jordan but what I have noticed about his commanding presence and obvious alpha qualities…

“No, it’s not surprising,” I finally respond. “It’s just no one knows who the alpha of that pack is and yet you just openly admitted to it without hesitation.”

“Only a select few outside of my pack know who I truly am, Talia. I tend to tell others a different name to minimize being targeted or my wolves being targeted.”

“Why tell me then?”

“I believe I can trust you to keep the information to yourself and…well, I don’t want to be secretive around you for some reason.”

I wasn’t sure why he felt that way, but it was nice to have someone who wanted to be honest and upfront with me rather than trying to one up me with their own secrets.

“Okay,” is all I can think to say.

“Are you done terrorizing the city tonight, little vampire?”

I raise my eyebrow in question to that.

“You already had blood on you before playing Picasso with this group, and I heard a story tonight of an attack that left a man without a hand and some other gruesome sounding wounds I have a feeling involved you and your particular flare of justice after seeing you in action here.”
