“What about you? How are you handling things here, and how is the baby?”
“The baby is doing good. I am starting to go a little stir crazy, though. Thank god she is due in two weeks and not two months.”
“Can you not go on a small walk outside for some fresh air? That would probably do you good, and in turn the baby, I would think.”
“The doctor doesn’t want me moving out of this bed for a second. He has been very strict with that little rule,” she grumbles. “I think he thrives on being able to prevent me from moving at all like some small form of power move he can wield in whatever capacity he can as doctor or some pleasure in torturing me since he has no other patients.”
“I have no doubt,” I chuckle. “He is an evil bastard sometimes.”
Josie laughs, and a knock on the bedroom door interrupts us.
I look over as the door opens, revealing Danny.
“Sorry to interrupt, but your father wants to see you, Tal.”
“Alright,” I sigh. Turning back to Josie I say, “I will talk to the doctor about getting you out of bed for a few minutes at least to go on a small walk with me.”
“Thank you, Talia,” she beams.
Out in the hallway, Danny walks beside me as we head to my father’s office.
“What does he want me for this time?” I ask.
“Not entirely sure…but Zander is with him.”
I groan because of course this day is just going to get shitier the longer it progresses. Zander is the leader of an ally coven that is much smaller than ours, but looking to grow to the level of power and respect our coven has. My father likes him, which I have no clue why. I, however, would love to put a spike through his ass and roast him over a blazing fire like a pig being prepared for a large feast every time we come into contact with each other and have to interact. He is cocky and sadistic along with always trying to find a way to rid werewolves from our city completely for the sole reason that we as vampires are the superior species and werewolves are nothing but rodents scurrying through the streets carrying the plague in need of exterminating.
Danny opens the door to my father’s office when we arrive and lets me go through first. I find my father and Zander sitting in the seating area my father has in the middle of the room that consists of four chairs gathered around a glass coffee table that sits low to the floor.Every time I see Zander, he gives me the creeps. It’s that sixth sense you get when you around someone that puts you on high alert because something in you just senses something wrong with the other person. You don’t know why but you know to trust the instinct. He has the sophisticated look that hides evil underneath, dressed in a tailored suit that is accompanied by long white hair slicked backand beady black eyes. His facial features of sharp cheekbones and jaw make him look handsome, but the evil shadows lurking in his eyes and the interactions I’ve had with him morph that handsomeness into something ugly.
“Father. Zander.” I acknowledge as I take a seat. Danny simply stands behind my chair and to the right.
“Talia,” father acknowledges. Zander simply nods his head at me as a way of greeting.
They start talking again to each other, ignoring me as if I’m not here. It’s a cue from my father that he wants me here to sit, listen, and learn about who he is meeting with and how to govern as a coven leader when the time comes in the future. So, of course I only half listen to what they are talking about and daydream about being on vacation in a cozy cabana on an island with no one around to bother me. Sunlight isn’t an issue for vampires thank god. Eventually though, something Zander starts talking about piques my interest to where I snap out of the daydream and pay closer attention to the conversation.
“The wolves in my area of the city are becoming an issue. They are attacking my coven without reason. Two of my coven members were injured in the attack with one being seriously injured to where he has been laid up in bed for several days now. The wolves responsible are being sought after and will be punished of course.”
“What caused them to attack your coven members?” I interject.
Zander looks at me with his eyes narrowed. “Nothing. I just said it was for no reason.”
“Who was attacked?”
“Why does it matter?” he says with clenched teeth.
“Because I have met some of your coven members and know they intentionally like to antagonize wolves to elicit a fight.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me. Now, who was the one injured by the wolves?”
Zander glares at me without answering. His gaze is clearly full of anger and hatred towards me. I don’t give a damn though. Nothing new either since we both hate each other’s guts.
“Zander,” my father draws his attention. “Indulge us and tell us who was involved in the attack.”
“Able and Benjamin,” Zander answers finally.
I smirk. “Benjamin is known to hate wolves just as much as you and loves to cause fights with them. I would bet he was talking shit to the wolves trying to get a reaction out of them until they lashed out or he was the one who lashed out first and is feeding you some bullshit story to give you an excuse to attack the wolves in your area of the city.”
