Dert roared, throwing himself at Storm. “Stay out of my way!”

“If you can’t keep your hands off an omega, you really don’t deserve to have them.” Storm grabbed Dert’s wrist.

And he slammed his brass knuckles into Dert’s forearm, cracking his bones.

Dert howled and swung his other fist at Storm, only for Storm to grab that arm and snap its bones too.

It was violent. Cruel. But Linus couldn’t find it in himself to feel sorry for Dert.

Dert yelled and tried to headbutt Storm. Storm grabbed his face and brought it down to meet his knee, hard.

“Let’s end this,” Storm said, his voice threaded with rage. “You’re a waste of my time.”

Before Dert could do much more than shout, Storm unsheathed a narrow dagger and shoved it between Dert’s ribs, a swift, sure thrust that had Dert spasming once, before collapsing onto the floor.

Linus and Storm stared at him for a moment.

“Call Varrick,” Storm said. “I don’t want his blood to stain your floor.”

Linus looked down at Storm’s phone, his fingers numb.

Dert was dead. He was finally gone. Linus would never have to look over his shoulder, worrying that the alpha was coming back to hurt him again.

It felt like a giant boulder had rolled off his chest.

“Here, I’ll do it.” Storm gently took the phone from Linus. Then he wrapped Linus in a big hug and rubbed his back. “You’re safe.”

Linus sank into him, sucking in a shuddering breath. “Oh, gods.”

“Did I scare you?” Storm frowned.

Linus shook his head. “It’s just... hard to believe that he’s really gone.”

“Well, his body will be here for a while longer. Feel free to kick him if it helps.” Storm drew one arm away to poke at his phone. Then he held it to his ear. “Varrick? Remember that jerk alpha I told you about? Yeah, he broke into Linus’ apartment and attacked him. So... We have a situation on our hands.”

Linus thought he heard Varrick snort.

Storm hummed. “Okay. Thanks. See you soon.”

He ended the call and tucked his phone away, rubbing Linus’ back again.

“You could’ve gotten hurt,” Linus said reproachfully.

“Sweetheart,” Storm growled, leaning back to look him in the eye. “Youcould have gotten hurt. I was so fucking scared I wouldn’t get to you in time.”

Now that Linus had experienced the same kind of fear, he felt guilty for putting Storm through it. “I’m sorry.”

Storm sighed. “Please stayawayfrom danger the next time.”

“I was helping you stay out of prison.”

Storm froze. Then he looked into Linus’ eyes, and laughed quietly. “Oh, sweetheart. You’re the best omega in the world.”

Linus shrugged and lowered his gaze. “Maybe I’m just looking out for myself, and I need foot rubs.”

Storm snorted. He hugged Linus tightly again, then released him and tugged him over to Dert’s body. “Here, kick him.”

“Why?”
