Then I got control of myself. “Are you ready to get out of here?”
He grinned at me. “Yeah.”
I put the car in gear and headed up the dirt road. I was going to strip this man and ride him hard as soon as we found a flat, dry horizontal surface. The way his hand rested on my naked thigh, thumb sliding slowly across my skin, I knew he was on board with the idea, even if it hadn’t been verbalized yet.
A sizzle was flying between us. Half because I was grateful to be alive, and half because this man was pure magic. I snuck a glance at his bare chest again. Even his muscles had muscles. He was tan from spending time outdoors, and I wanted to examine every inch of him.
“Watch the road, Mia,” he rumbled.
Glancing back up at the dirt road, I saw that I was dangerously close to the edge where a small ravine dropped off.
I corrected course and promised myself that I wouldn’t get distracted by that man again while driving. Can you imagine crashing your car because you were too busy looking at a hot, naked mountain man chest? I’d never live that one down.
But when I rounded a bend in the road, we both groaned. I slowed the car to a crawl and then a stop as we approached a large, downed tree.
“Do you think we can move it?”
West’s face was grim. “Not without equipment. It’s too big.”
The trunk on the tree looked like it was a good eighteen inches across.
“Are there any other exits?”
“This is it.”
Hm. In my mind I’d already had West back at my hotel room, a room service tray demolished and my lipsticked lips wrapped around his cock. This would all have happenedafterI’d had a shower to get the lake water off me.
That particular vision drifted off. We were stuck out here. No hotel bed in sight.
West unbuckled his seat belt. “You stay put. Let me just take a look.”
Before I could respond he’d raced out into the storm. I saw him studying the tree from tip to root. He came back a minute later, dripping wet and shaking his head. “Sorry, hon. That tree needs a chainsaw. You happen to have one of those in the trunk of your rental car?”
“No.” Then I added. “I’ll call my friends. They can come pick us up.”
West shook his head. “Cell reception doesn’t work on this end of the lake.”
That sounded crazy. “You mean I can’t make a phone call?”
“Try it. See what happens. Maybe you’ll get lucky.”
Huh. I pulled my phone out and checked. He was right. No reception. Then I tried to send a text, but it didn’t go through.
“My friends are going to be so worried about me.”
“Maybe they’ll come looking for you.”
“No. I don’t think I mentioned where I was going today. I just told them I was going exploring. It didn’t seem important at the time.”
His hand landed on my thigh again, a promise of something more. “Looks like we’re going to be spending the night out here, at least until the storm passes.”
Hm. That sounded like bad news. But then again, it did mean I’d get to spend the night with this man.
My eyes lit up. It might not be a comfy hotel bed, but we could get into some trouble out here if we were creative enough.
“Do you happen to have a tent in the trunk of your car?” he asked as a joke.
“Actually… I think there is one.”
