Even with the command given by the king, everyone was slow to react. Seraphina wasn’t sure if it was from the surprise of the events or if the fates had frozen everyone, allowing her and her rescuers time to escape.
“Shifters. Do your duties,” Varik ordered.
Seraphina gasped for air as she was lifted higher into the sky, away from the platform. The wind howled around her and she tried to focus on the scene below her, trying to get her bearing. Her heart thundered in her chest even as relief coursed through her.
Dain’s dragon form cut through the air like a graceful, beautiful, blue and silver arrow. She sighed as the tension drained from her body and a sense of calm came over her. He’d come for her, just like she’d seen in her prophecy.
A second dragon flew right behind them. The crimson and black scales gleamed in the sunlight as he sailed through the air just as gracefully and beautifully as Dain. She knew that this was Kael, loyal to Dain, and would protect them.
The ground came up quickly and Seraphina braced herself for the impact, but Dain set her gently on the ground in front of a small cave surrounded by trees and brush.
Stay here until I come back for you,he said telepathically.
“I will stay, King Dain.”
If he was surprised by her acknowledgment of his title, he didn’t show it. He simply took off again with Kael by his side.
Three large dragons flew toward Dain and Kael. Dain breathed out a freezing shower of wind, instantly turning one of the enemy dragons into a block of ice. The dragon instantly dropped through the trees, shattering into a million pieces.
Seraphina held her breath when one of the enemy dragons shot a hot stream of glowing red-hot lava at Kael. He ducked and the lava missed him, raining down on the trees below. Kael rolled and flew under the dragon’s belly and slit it open. The enemy dragon roared in pain and dropped to the ground.
The third enemy dragon, with gleaming red scales, shot a fire tornado at Dain. He ducked for cover, but the attack touched his wing. Angrily, Dain whipped around and shot seven lightning bolts at him in rapid succession. Kael banked the scarlet dragon from the other side, bathing him with a wall of fire. The enemy dragon spun out of control, crashing into the forest below.
Dain swooped down to where Seraphina stood watching the entire show.
Get on before more come.
She hastily climbed on his back and held on to his neck as he quickly rose into the air. Her heart raced a million miles an hour, and she tried to remember to breathe as Dain flew over the treetops. If the situation had been different, she would have loved the experience as the scene below her was so incredibly beautiful.
Different shades of green from the trees blended together to paint a picture she could only imagine. The purple, white, pink, yellow, and red blossoms on some of the trees dotted the scenery below. White fluffy clouds in a baby blue sky were just above them, and Seraphina was sure that she could reach out and touch one of them, feeling the cotton candy softness in her hands.
Birds flew by, looking at Seraphina curiously. She laughed as a flock flew next to them for a while, chattering back and forth,as though they were trying to figure out how a human was flying in the air.
After an hour or so, they landed outside of a large crumbling wall covered in flowering thorny vines. Kael and Dain shifted and nodded to her.
“Sorry. We tore our clothes when we shifted in Wyrmhaven,” Dain said.
Seraphina smiled. “Not to worry. I’ve seen many a naked person before and after shifting. It is a natural state as we are all born naked, anyway.”
Biting her lip, she tried to control her reaction to him. She had seen a lot of men naked, but none of them affected her the way he did. Seraphina tried not to be obvious as she looked him up and down. His thick muscles and sexy body created a hot, wet reaction between her legs. Her eyes grazed by his long, thick penis that was impressive without being aroused. A picture exploded in her mind of their bodies connected as he filled her.
She shook her head. Now’s not the time, she scolded herself.
Seraphina grabbed Dain’s hand and an explosive shock coursed through her body. It was more than his electrical nature. It was a connection of souls between them.
“Thank you for saving me.” She looked at Kael. “Thank you for risking your life for me.”
“You’re welcome, Oracle,” Kael said stiffly.
“Please call me Seraphina.” She studied the structure in front of her. “The Ruins of Arkhadia. I have seen this place in my visions but have never visited it. It has dark and light magic in the walls and chambers. It is a place of great joy and great sorrow.”
“Well, shall we go in?” Kael said. “I’m hungry.”
He led the way, with Seraphina and Dain walking side by side behind him. They weren’t touching, but she could still feel theelectricity and warmth connecting them. Her soul screamed at her, telling her that he was her destiny. Her body ached for him.
She looked at him out of the corner of her eye. He looked straight ahead, his expression unreadable. Seraphina knew that he’d felt the connection between them, but he would know, as well as she did, that mating would invoke the curse.
Seraphina made sure that her mental shield was up, so Dain couldn’t inadvertently hear her thoughts. There has to be a way around the curse because he has to regain his throne, and he can’t do that if he goes mad.
