“So did I, but I’m not enough of a damn fool to believe it. I felt like something was off, then it hit me while we were leaving the party. That’s why I got this,” he said, brandishing a pregnancy test. My heart seized up in my chest, but I fought to keep my facial expression even.

“What the hell are you doing with that?”

“Your ass has been sick an awfully long time. First, it was a bug going around. Now, it’s what, food poisoning? How long are you going to play this game? Nine months?”

“I’m not playing any games. If anything, we’re all playing a game. We’re not even in a real relationship. From what I hear, you’re just trying to impress your investors and trick your dad.”

“I don’t give a damn what you think this is. Take the fucking test, Divine.”

“I’m not doing that,” I said, shaking my head.

Grabbing my chin in his hand, he got so close that his lips were touching mine.

“I’m not understanding why you think you have a choice. Take the fucking test,” he said, before shoving me away, causing my head to slam into the wall.

“I don’t need to pee.”

“Oh, you will before you leave here, you conniving bitch. That’s the only reason I brought you here. I knew you were up to something. Now, I can see it as clear as day. The Reigns are trying to pawn their prize possession off on me. You probably don’t even know who the father is. I’m sure it’s not Sherrod, or is it?”

“You’re talking crazy.” I shook my head.

“Well, take the fucking test. You’re not leaving this house until you do,” he said, snatching my purse from the counter.

“Give me that!” I demanded.

“Whoa, this muthafucka is heavy. What you got in here?” he asked, opening it and looking inside. My heart sank as I considered him finding the device. Instead, he pulled out my gun.

“I hope you weren’t planning on using this tonight, Ms. Gold.”

“No. I always carry.”

“Yeah? Well, you won’t be needing it tonight, but now I don’t have to leave this bathroom to get my piece. Take the fucking test, or I’ll shoot you in the stomach and make sure that the results are negative,” he barked as he pressed the gun into my abdomen.

“Wait!” I said, holding my hands up. “I’ll take the stupid test, but I need to drink more.”

“I thought you would come to your senses.”

With a death grip on my arm, Zane pulled me out of the bathroom and back to the kitchen. I struggled against his hold as he took a glass from the counter and filled it with tap water.

“Drink!” he demanded.

With no other choice, I took the water and gulped it down. Yanking the cup out of my hand, he filled it again.

“Drink!”

Tears sprang from my eyes as I forced the second glass of water down. When he went to fill the glass again, I pushed it away.

“That’s enough.”

“You ready to pee now?”

“I just need a second.”

“You’ve used up all of your seconds, baby girl.”

“I can’t just pee on command. It takes twenty or thirty minutes for the water to pass through your system.”

“Then you got about thirty minutes before I give you an at home abortion,” he said, dragging me over to the stove where he set a timer.
