Monty let out a groan of pleasure and Lola could no longer think straight. She pushed the object across the table, no idea or care of its trajectory until it thumped on the floor, rolling who knew where and killing the moment.
‘What the bloody hell was that?’
Monty jumped.
‘I’m sorry. Shit! I might have damaged the flooring… I-I couldn’t hold on any longer.’
‘Don’t you ever apologise! I’m more than happy to take the hint. Come here.’
He hitched his hands under her buttocks and scooched her to the edge of the billiard table, diving in for an explicit kiss.
‘Ohhhhhh,’ he growled. ‘Fuck, Lola. You are so damn exquisite.’
He rolled the condom down his length and entered her slowly, looking deep into her eyes, taking both of their breaths away. Lola might have cried out his name. The sensation was the definition of euphoria. She laid herself backwards and buckedher hips to get more of it, catching Monty’s delirious face, and a fine strip of red light which randomly flashed like a laser beam, cutting through the window.
Monty penetrated deeper and Lola had no choice but to put the strange vision out of her mind. It was just her imagination. She was probably hallucinating on lust. When they eventually changed positions, Monty transporting her to the chaise longue, lowering her on all fours so he could take her from behind, her gaze caught the window again as she bit her lip at the delicious build up within. But there was nothing there. Lola completely let go, screaming the mansion down as the most incredible orgasm flooded her body, Monty joining in until they both collapsed in blissful union.
Later when they’d moved to the comfort of one of the multitude of spare bedrooms upstairs, Lola snuggled into Monty’s chest and told him about Fumiko’s sudden offer.
‘I don’t mean to speak out of turn and I will never tell you what to do.’
‘I’d be able to hear the ‘but’ in that if you were saying it in my apartment in Bath right now.But go on…’
‘You can’t possibly invest a penny in that place. You pointed out some of its darling features when you showed me around. And when I fed Squiffy, I saw even more of them for myself. I guess I became a bit of an expert in researching all this stuff when I bought my place at the Crescent. Fumiko is trying to dress this up as an offer you can’t refuse for one reason: she knows how bad the damp and mould have gotten and she wants that place off her hands.’
‘You don’t know her, Monty. She’s been really good to me.’
‘Or has she always had an ulterior motive?’
‘I can’t think the worst of people all the time. Especially after the way I’ve been burned lately.’
‘I’m more than happy to do it for you. You have to protect yourself.’
‘I really don’t see it like that. She’s away so much. She doesn’t have time to come back to arrange viewings. Not everything has to be sinister. It’s not like she’s a guy.’
‘Oh, there are plenty of women out there with an agenda.’
‘What’s that supposed to mean.’
‘Nothing. We’ll talk about it another time.’
‘Okay, then.’
They both fell silent for a while, their rhythmic breathing the only sound in the mansion.
‘What if I made you an offer?’ said Monty.
Lola sat up in the semi-dark. Not that she could see him any better, and she wasn’t about to flick on the lampshade to dazzle them both. But this sounded serious.
‘I don’t want to leave my apartment empty when I’m away on tour and I already know that I want to maximise every moment with you when I’m back in the country. Move in with me. You and Squiffy.’
‘Let me sleep on it,’ Lola replied, surprising herself. She nestled into Monty’s body again and yawned her head off, feeling ridiculously happy.

‘Monty.’ Lola shookhim, thankful that he’d left the door open a crack and turned the hallway light on so she wasn’t wondering where the hell she was in the pitch black darkness of the old building. ‘Monty!’
‘Hmm? What is it, sweetheart?’ Monty stirred and rolled over, his hand feeling for her. ‘Have you and Squiffy decided to move in?’
