Zane hummed in agreement, and I felt him smile against my skin. “Yeah? I like it.”

My heart did a slow roll in my chest. I rolled onto my side, facing him.

His dark eyes were still sleepy, black hair fallen over his forehead.

“So… What did Trevor say last night?”

“I told him it was you who handled it like a boss,” Zane’s voice came out low, still gravelly. “He was proud. Wanted to talk to you himself, but I said you’d be asleep. He’s expecting a call from you.”

My chest swelled a little with pride, even as my voice came out quiet. “You didn’t tell him about…?”

He opened and narrowed his eyes slightly, watching me carefully. “Us? No.”

That’s what I wanted him to say.I think.

But something about it still stung. A small pinch under my ribs.

Zane moved onto his back, adjusting the pillow under his head. “No one can know about us. I don’t like it, but it must be done. At least until this whole attack bullshit is over.”

“And…” My voice was soft. “After that?”

He turned his head toward me; eyes sharp, steady.

His stare settled into me like gravity. Then, without breaking that gaze, he pushed the sheets down and moved over me.

All of him.

Toned chest, inked skin, heavy muscle and warmth. He hovered over me, the mattress shifting under his weight.

“I thought I was pretty clear about my intentions last night,” He spoke, voice deep and unreadable.

“We didn’t do a lot of talking…”

Zane’s mouth lifted into a smirk. “Let me be clear then. You’re not seeing anyone else. And I’m sure as hell not seeing anyone else. It’s me and you. Got it?”

My heart skipped a beat.

He leaned in closer, lowering his weight slightly on me, his arms braced on either side.

“Yeah?” he asked again, softer this time, his lips brushing against mine.

I smiled, shy and warm. “Yeah.”

A masculine groan of satisfaction rumbled in his chest, making my pulse beat between my legs.

“Good.” His gaze dropped to my lips, before coming back up.“Waking up next to you… I’ve wanted to do that for a very long time.”

“Yeah?” I bit the inside of my cheek to stop from smiling.

“Mhm.” He smirked, leaning down to kiss me deep and soft.“You look good under me.”

I groaned, holding his face in my hands as he pressed his lips to mine.“You look good on top of me…”

The sound of my morning alarm filtered through the space between us. Breaking the kiss for a moment, I reached for my phone and turned it off before quickly returning to Zane.

He smirked at my quick movements and tamed enthusiasm but I didn’t care. He had a habit of changing his mind about us due to his upside-down morals, so I wasn’t giving him any time to think this over.

We kissed; short, deep, tongue. Switching the angle every time; left then right. Giving in then pulling back, only to fall in all over again.
