She let the bride subject go, since it was obvious it was pointless.
“Okay. Well, I’m Raewyn. I’m not a human, but an Elf from a different world.”
“What’s an Elf?”
“And what’s a Raewyn?”
She couldn’t help the small giggle that left her. Yep, these two definitely didn’t have as much humanity as Merikh. She kind of found it cute, now that it seemed like they weren’t going to harm her... at least, for now.
“Raewyn is my name.”
A small silence fell upon them, yellow sparking in her vision. They’d done it at each other, from what she could tell.
A glowing trail informed her they’d both turned to her, and at the same time asked,“What’s a name?”
She explained it to them as best as she could, even though they were slow to digest it. She had to say the same thing multiple times and in different ways. They didn’t even realise Merikh was a name and thought it was just something he’d preferred to be called other than Duskwalker, or Mavka.
They’d thought it was some kind of strange descriptor.
The longer she spoke to them, the more she liked them. They were a little goofy, and they liked to answer each other’s questions and finish their sentences. They were so in sync with each other but obviously disconnected from the world.
“Could you name us then?”Pink asked, coming a little too close to her face.
Raewyn tilted her head before grabbing her feet while crossing her legs. “Sure, I guess.” She gave a shrug. “Can I touch your faces, though? It might make it easier for me to figure out what to name you if I know what you look like.”
“What do you mean?”Purple asked.
“You are already looking at us.”
Her eyelids flickered, but she gave them a weak smile. “I can’t see,” she told them. “That’s why I have stars in my eyes.”
A whoosh of air in front of her face informed her one had waved their hand millimetres from her nose.
“She did not see it.”
“No, she did not.”
“Did you know creatures could lose their sight?”
“No,”Pink answered, before throwing her a question.“You do not heal in twenty-four hours like us? This is permanent?”
Raewyn nodded. “Yes. Humans and Elves can’t heal wounds like this with magic.”
“We see... Well, if you must touch my face to name me, then you can do so,”Purple offered.
Raewyn raised her hands up and waited for him to place whatever kind of skull he had in her palms.
“No! I want to be named first,”Pink exclaimed right before Purple was shoved to the ground with a thud and a thwap.
Just as Pink placed his skull in her hands, it was gone as he was tackled.“I offered first!”
Dread crept up her spine, since she’d obviously started a fight between them. It worsened when one grabbed her ankle and yanked her towards them, while the other growled and clasped her wrist.
Oh no. What have I done?
She hoped they didn’t plan to play tug-o-war with her body!
Raewyn let out a high-pitched squeal when her worries were proven right, and they yanked in opposite directions.
