Aurora laughed. “At least someone appreciates Biscuit’s chaos.”
Before I could respond, a soft coo from the other side of the room drew my attention. Evie lay on a blanket spread across the rug, her tiny hands waving in the air.
Aurora leaned over to tickle Evie’s belly. The baby let out a gurgling giggle, and my heart tightened.
It was easy to push the pregnancy out of my mind when I was alone, but watching the babies—tiny, vulnerable, full of life—brought it rushing back.
I pressed a hand to my stomach, barely even aware I was doing it until Aurora’s gaze softened.
Lila noticed, too. She sat down beside me, Biscuit jumping onto her lap like he was part of the conversation.
“How are you feeling?” she asked gently. “About everything, I mean.”
I swallowed, my throat dry. “I… don’t know. One second, I feel like I can handle this. The next, I feel completely overwhelmed. I mean, I’m probably about six weeks pregnant, and I have no idea where my head is at.”
Aurora nodded. “That makes sense. It’s a lot, Sadie. And no one expects you to have it figured out overnight.”
I glanced between them, my fingers twisting in my lap. “How did you know? That you wanted to keep your babies?”
Lila and Aurora exchanged a look.
“For me, it was easier because I had the guys,” Lila admitted. “I knew, no matter what, I wasn’t doing it alone. But it was still terrifying.” She picked up Jace and bounced him gently, smiling when the baby yawned. “I thought about all my options. There was a time I wasn’t sure I was ready.”
Aurora nodded. “Same. I love Evie more than anything, but I also had moments where I wasn’t sure. I think it’s okay to sit in the uncertainty for a while. You don’t have to have all the answers right now. I knew I had a life I could go back to, but Medford… well, it got me.”
I exhaled slowly. “I keep thinking about what this means for my life. For… them. What if they don’t want this? What if I don’t?”
Lila reached over and squeezed my hand. “Then that’s okay, too.”
Aurora nodded. “You have options, Sadie. And whatever you decide, we’re here for you. No judgment, no pressure. Just support.”
For the first time in days, I felt like I could breathe.
Biscuit chose that moment to leap onto my lap, his little paws pressing against my stomach like he had his own opinion on the matter.
Lila groaned. “Biscuit, not the baby!”
I laughed, scratching behind his ears. “Guess he’s weighing in.”
Aurora smiled. “Well, while you’re sitting with a decision-making corgi, we might as well start your transformation.”
Lila clapped her hands. “Yes! Enough heavy talk. It’s makeover time.”
I eyed the array of makeup, curling irons, and dresses laid out on the dining table. “I feel like I’m about to be sacrificed.”
Aurora grinned. “Only to the gods of romance.”
Lila and Aurora immediately jumped into action. Lila pulled out a shimmering blush-toned dress, handing it to me with a look of approval.
“This is perfect for the festival,” she said, her voice filled with certainty. “Soft, feminine, but with just enough flair.”
Aurora began organizing her makeup supplies. “We’ll keep it fresh, natural, but with a little extra glow. You deserve to feel like the beautiful, strong woman you are.”
I raised an eyebrow. “No pressure, huh?”
Lila laughed. “None at all. But seriously, you’re going to look incredible.”
As I stood to change into the dress, I felt a flutter of excitement. I was finally starting to think about something other than all the chaos in my life.
