Felix squeezes his thighs together and shakes his head.

“Did you take something?” he asks gently.

It’s weird to see Jace be so sweet and tender with him. Only kids and animals get to see this side of him, and Jace’s calm helps both me and Felix relax.

Felix nods, but quickly stops and shakes his head.

“You didn’t take anything?”

“He made me take it,” Felix says. His voice is different. It’s softer and a little dreamy, and I’m so distracted by how he sounds that it takes a few seconds for his words to register.

Jax grabs both of my shoulders and jams his nails into my muscles. The stings of pain are sharp and effective, and I’m able to swallow the surge of emotions that hit as soon as I realized what he said.

“Someone made you take them?” Jace asks, still using that gentle voice he usually saves for strays and babies.

Felix nods and lets out a soft groan.

“Do you know who?”

Felix shakes his head. “He didn’t take his mask off.”

“And you don’t know what you took?”

He shakes his head again.

I make an impatient sound, and Jax drags me away from them and spins me around so I’m facing him.

“Chill,” he warns.

“I am chill,” I snap.

He shoots me a flat look.

I pull in a deep breath and hold it for a few beats. I don’t feel much better as I blow it out, but I’m able to rein in my emotions a bit more.

He’s right. I need to calm the fuck down so we can figure out what the hell is going on and deal with it.

I glance over my shoulder at Jace and Felix. They have their heads bent together and their voices are hushed, so I can’t hear what they’re saying, but the small smile on Felix’s lips is reassuring.

They speak for another minute or so, then Jace gives him a gentle pat on the shoulder and stands.

His entire demeanor changes as soon as he turns his back to Felix. The soft look falls from his face and is replaced by one I know all too well. He’s not just mad. He’s pissed the fuck off.

“He was drugged,” he says in a hard voice and rolls his neck like he’s gearing up to step into a boxing ring. “And I know who the fuck did it.”

“Who?” I say at the same time Jax says, “How?”

“He saw his tattoo.” Jace’s eyes are so dark they look bottomless. “The same one that William has.”

The flash of anger that hits is so strong it nearly steals my breath. William drugged Felix?

“Easy, Killer.” Jax tightens his grip on my shoulder. “We’ll deal with this. We just need to get all the information first.”

“He has no idea what he took,” Jace continues. “He said it was two pills, and they were different.”

“I’m going to fucking kill him.”

“Get in line, cousin.” Jace flexes his hands like he’s trying to stop himself from punching the wall. “I think I know what one of them is.”
