“And the clone-a-willy he sent him.” Jax elbows me in the side. “Remember when we found out you made a clone of your dick and sent it to Felix? That was a mistake.”
“Letting us find out about it was the mistake, not sending your guy a dick clone dildo.” Jace pats my shoulder condescendingly.
“I hate both of you,” I grumble.
“I swear at one point he was researching how he could ship himself to campus in a box so he could jump out in a thong and yell ‘surprise’ when Felix opened it,” Jace says with a grin, ignoring me.
“Are you about done?” I ask as we stop at the main gate to Hamilton House.
“For now,” Jax says.
“Maybe.” Jace winks.
I roll my eyes and tap my alumni card against the sensor. When it clicks and flashes green, I walk through the gate and wait for the twins to do the same.
It’s graduation day, or rather, convocation day, at Silvercrest, and Felix is going to be walking the stage in just under six hours.
We might have only graduated a year ago, but Jace wasn’t wrong when he said it feels different to be back on campus. It’s not so much feeling too big for the space or like we’ve grown at all; it’s just weird to be walking these paths and stepping through the gate again.
We spent four years here, and this campus felt like our entire world. Then we graduated and started working for our dads’ business, and our world got a hell of a lot bigger in an instant.
Jace secured a place in the IT department, and he helps run the company’s cybersecurity. Jax is currently working under my dad and is learning the ins and outs of the import/export aspect of the business, including the not-so-aboveboard importing and exporting we do. I’m currently working under the twins’ dad on the finance side and learning the ropes from him.
We all like our jobs, and they’re exactly the positions we always knew we’d be given, but our dads don’t go easy on us, and we’ve been working our asses off to prove ourselves.
And we’re not the only ones who’ve been busting our asses.
We might have spent the last year in suits and attending business meetings, but Felix has been finishing up his last year at Silvercrest, and because he’s a nerd who loves to learn, he’s graduating with a double major, so his last year was as busy as mine.
We made it work, but I can’t fucking wait until he’s out of here and we can finally start our lives together.
Being long-distance wasn’t fun, but it was worth every second, even with the twins being their usual insufferable assholes and teasing us about absolutely everything they could.
Now we’ll finally get to live together again, and I know Felix is as eager as me because as much as I’ve gotten used to sleeping alone, I always sleep better when I have Felix wrapped up in my arms.
Hamilton House, the same as the rest of campus, looks exactly the same as we make our way to the main door, and I get the weirdest sense of déjà vu as I tap my alumni card and push the door open.
“This is weird,” Jace says as we walk through the familiar lobby.
“Yeah,” I agree.
We don’t talk as we take the stairs up to the top floor, and the twins fall into step behind me as I push the door to their old room, which is now Felix’s room.
He’s standing in front of his wardrobe, his gown on and his cap and sash in his hands as he checks out his reflection.
After the leadership found out about us dating—and his uncle trying to off him—they granted Felix special status. He’s not an official member of the Rebels, so he’s not privy to Rebel business and doesn’t have the same responsibilities as the other members in the house, but he was allowed to keep living here until he graduated and given all the protections that come with a full membership thanks to my dad and uncles pulling some strings behind the scenes.
Knowing that he wasn’t just on campus but also under the protection of the Rebels is the only reason I didn’t spend the last year freaking out about him being out of my sight. There might not be any more threats from his uncle, but that doesn’t mean he’s out of danger, considering he’s the sole heir to a multi-billion dollar empire.
And that’s the other reason I can’t wait until he’s out of here. I know he’s safe here, but I don’t like being away from him, orrelying on others to keep him safe, any more than he likes being away from me.
Felix turns as I swing the door open, and the big, beaming smile that splits his face when he sees me warms my heart. It doesn’t matter if we’ve been apart for weeks, months, or even hours. His smile is always big and bright and so damn happy every time he sees me.
I grin back at him, and not giving a shit that the twins are going to rib me about this endlessly, I run across the room, too impatient to walk over to him like a normal person.
Felix meets me halfway, his navy-blue robe billowing behind him, and drops both his cap and sash as he throws himself into my arms.
“Oh my god,” he says, his voice muffled. He buries his face in my neck and wraps himself around me like a crazed koala, locking his ankles together under my ass.
