He gazed at me.
I cleared my throat and continued with the story.
Sammy fell asleep between us. While Cash put him to bed upstairs, I gathered my things and sat on the couch, waiting for Cash to reappear to say good night. Despite the short walk, I brought my car with me since I knew it’d be dark by the time I left, and I didn’t want to walk on a dark road alone.
A huge part of me yearned for Cash to ask me to stay the night. But the other part wished he didn’t because there was no way I’d ever deny him.
Every part of me ached with a carnal thirst for him. Yet I couldn’t. I wouldn’t. I wasn’t staying here forever, so I couldn’t let myself fall for a guy I barely knew, even if his kid was the most adorable thing. I couldn’t. There were my parents, and Chevelle, of course, and my agent at the publishing house, and…
I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees and my head in my hands. I squeezed my legs together as I pictured him taking me upstairs and doing all the naughty things to me…his head between my legs…his stubble rubbing on my inner thighs…
“Are you okay?” Cash’s voice broke through my thoughts, and I jumped up from the couch.
“Shit! You scared me!” I smoothed down my dress and grabbed my bag, needing the distraction before I jumped onhim.“I had a great time tonight.”
“I did, too. Let me walk you to your car.”
I let him pass in front of me and open the door, but as soon as I walked by him and onto the front step, he grabbed my arm and whirled me around.
Cash caged me in with both hands and dipped his head low. A growl erupted from somewhere deep in his throat, and he held me frozen in place with his piercing stare.
“What are you doing?” I breathed.
“Something I should’ve done a long time ago.” Cash leaned down without hesitation and swept me into a mind-blowing kiss.
When it was over, my lips ached, and my knees buckled. Cash grinned as he walked me the rest of the way to the car, and as we kissed one last time through the window, I already figured out the inevitable.
I was falling hard and fast for the rugged mountain man.
CHAPTER SIX
Cash
After our kiss,we were like a magnetic force, unable to resist each other.
Leighton spent her days on the orchard with Sammy and me, along with Caden, and his sister, Jolene. She also met our other close friend Aster, who used to work on the orchard with us but now had his own chicken farm.
Jolene and Leighton instantly took to each other as Jolene talked about her passion for photography, and Leighton spoke about her books. They discussed ideas on incorporating Jolene’s photography into the pictures of Leighton’s books, and their ideas were pretty damn good.
While Sammy napped and I handled the business part of the orchard, Leighton worked on her books.
Each night, we grew closer as we told each other our deepest secrets and biggest dreams, our fears and pasts, and what we wanted for the future. During the first week, we only kissed, and Leighton went home to her cabin.
But as the days passed by, it was harder to resist. After a week and a half had gone by, I told her so.
Leighton climbed into my lap and rubbed herself against my aching erection. “Why didn’t you say something sooner?”
“I was waiting for you to be ready.”
“Aw, Cash, you’re such a gentleman. But I was ready the day I met you.” She tossed her gorgeous red hair over her shoulder and laughed. “Just kidding. But I have been ready. For like days now.”
I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her hard before bucking my hips up. She moaned in response.Perfection.
With a green light to forge ahead, I didn’t waste another second. I tore at her clothes and mine and slid my hard dick inside her minutes later.
It was hard, fast, and primal, and I loved every fucking second of it. I know she did too.
“Spend the night with me,” I said between pants of breath.
