Page 49 of Unhinged Omega

NIKOLAI

Istare up at the air traffic control tower looming against the darkening sky, my feet refusing to carry me any closer. Been avoiding this moment for the better part of a day, throwing myself into coordinating the last of the weapons shipments.

Making sure everything's secure.

Doing my fucking job.

Not thinking about violet eyes and hair like moonlight.

Not obsessing over a scent that's carved itself into my brain.

I turn away from the tower, my boots crunching on gravel as I head toward the pit instead. The Knight stands motionless in the center, face tilted up toward the sky like always.

No, I realize.

Not the sky.

The tower.

Has that pit gotten… bigger?

The edges look more worn down, like something's been clawing at them. And there's only one something in the pit.

Before I can look closer, I hear boots plowing through the gravel behind me.

"Boss, you're back."

Lex's voice cuts through my thoughts. I turn to find her approaching, that mangy mutt of hers trotting at her heels. The scars around her mouth stretch as she grins.

"Last shipment's secure," I grunt, trying to focus on business. On the empire I've spent years building. The one I'm seriously considering burning to the ground over an omega who can't stand the sight of me.

And thinks I smell like "piss and ass," apparently.

What the fuck does that even mean? I hate how much of the last twenty-four hours I've spent pondering it.

"Everything's in place."

"Good timing," Lex says, but there's something off in her tone. "We've got a situation."

It just keeps getting better.

My jaw clenches. "What kind of situation?"

Lex's eyes drift up toward the tower, and that uneasy feeling in my gut intensifies. "You should probably see for yourself."

"For fuck's sake," I mutter, stalking back toward the tower.

Might as well get it over with.

As if it hasn't taken all my willpower to stay gone.

There's already no telling what I'm going to be walking into, considering I left her alone in my home and she hates my fucking guts, but I'm definitely not expecting what awaits me.

The scent hits me before the elevator doors even open.

Heat.

Moonlight with a hint of debauchery.
