Iwatched the contents of my protein shake swirling in the blender at the squad house. I was trying one of Tyler’s recipes he’d gotten from the Blackhawks’ nutritionist. This shit was supposed to give me energy for days.
Zoma walked in through the front door. “Oh, hey Myles. Are you preparing for your second big night?” Smiling at me, he sauntered to the kitchen island and sat on a stool at the counter, propping his elbows on it.
I stopped blending, then poured the drink into a tall glass. Was Cooper at his hotel yet? I thought of him constantly.
“You and Cooper look well.” His smile reached his eyes as he placed his chin in his palms.
“We are.” Warmth filled my chest. I was in love. Did it show? I sipped my drink, the cool sweetness gliding down my throat, and stepped to the island, stopping opposite Zoma.
“I mean, he came out to his parents and they’re coming here for Thanksgiving…” He hooked a brow.
“They are.” I nodded. Where was he going with this?
“You two are always so cozy when you’re home.” He side-eyed me.
“Yeah?” I drank more of my shake. And?
“So, are you in love yet?” He fixated on me. “Because you sure look it to me.”
“Uh, maybe.” I quirked the corner of my mouth. “Okay yes. At least I am.” He was fishing for that information.
Zoma freed a soft squeal, shaking his hands. “I’m so happy for you, Myles.” His face went slack. “Wait, you haven’t told him yet, have you?” He dropped his forearms on the counter.
“No, because I don’t know how.” I pressed my lips together. It wasn’t something you should just blurt out.
“Sure, but I think if you told him, he’d say it back.” He wrinkled his brows.
“Maybe.” Would he, though? How could Zoma be so sure? I rubbed a finger over the counter.
“No,maybe.” Zoma tapped the counter in front of me. “He dotes on you like, well, like Ace dotes on me. He looks at you like a man in love.”
“Okay.” Scratching my temple, my gaze crept to his. “What am I supposed to do? I can’t just tell him. Shouldn’t a declaration of love be special?”
“It should, but sometimes it comes out when you least expect it.” He huffed a chuckle. “When Ace told me, it was during an argument. Well, sort of.” He frowned. “I hadn’t let him tell me when he’d wanted to.”
“Why?” I set my half-drunk shake on the counter. I remembered the night when we’d just gotten home from an away game and Zoma had shown up at the house during a rare desert rainstorm.
“I wasn’t ready.” His gaze found mine. “But you two are ready.” He tilted his head. “Maybe you could make it special, you know, have candles and a nice dinner waiting for him when he comes home.” He clasped his hands over his heart.
Huffing a sigh, I said, “I don’t know if that’s my style.” But would it be Cooper’s style? He’d been sort of romantic with me lately. What if Zoma was wrong, though? My chest squeezed.
“Try it. I have a feeling you’d make him ecstatic.” Hesmirked. “I can make sure no one’s home. I’ll take Ace out somewhere tomorrow. He’d be all for it, anyway.”
“Yeah, okay.” Nodding, I drank the rest of my shake. I supposed I could take a chance. He’d taken so many with me.
My phone chimed on the kitchen counter by the blender. “I’ll do something, so make plans with Ace.” I picked up the phone. There was a text message from Cooper. Speak of the devil.
Cooper
I’m alone in my hotel room. Where are you?
I tapped the screen, my dick waking. I knew what he wanted.
Myles
About to be alone in my room.
Rinsing out my glass, a smile grew over my mouth. This whole long distance sex thing was kinda hot.
