“What about Gin?” I asked Alec.
“She came into the office shortly after Tessa, alsocovered in blood. And that blood was hers.”
I winced.
“Gin’s fine,” he assured me. “She’d already fully healed by the time I saw her. Though I did have to get her some new clothes. Hers were all torn up. And stained.”
I gave him a hard look.
Alec lifted his hands up in the air. “I was a perfect gentleman, I assure you. I didn’t peek while she was changing.”
I snorted. “Right. Like I believe that.”
“Oh, trust me, this time I was on my best behavior,” he said with a dark laugh. “I didn’t want her broody-faced boyfriend to rip my arms out of their sockets.”
“Boyfriend?” I repeated. “Gin doesn’t have a boyfriend.”
A devilish smile twisted his lips. “She does now.”
I frowned. “I’m gone a few weeks, and I misseverything.” I leveled my gaze at him. “Why are you grinning at me like that?”
“Oh, come on, Leda. You’ve been going off on super-secret missions basically since the day you joined the Legion, and most of the rest of us were always kept out of the loop. Well, for once, I know more about what’s going on than you do. I even knew all the juicy gossip before Nerissa and Claudia found out, and you know how rarely that ever happens.”
True. Nerissa and Claudia were the gossip queens of the Legion of Angels. Or at least my corner of the Legion of Angels.
“Ok, so All-Knowing-One, who is Gin’s new beau?”
“Sorry, Boss,” he said with a shrug. “I’m not allowed to tell you that either.”
“Gin threatened you too, eh?”
“Her boyfriend did actually.”
“The ‘broody-faced’ one?”
Alec nodded. “Precisely. He wants to be the one to tell you about him and Gin.”
“So that means I know him,” I reasoned.
“You could say that,” Alec replied with a demure smile.
Ok, so now Ireallyhad to know. Like right now. I was tempted to teleport to the infirmary immediately, but that might give the patients a heart attack—and some of the doctors too.
“You are really enjoying keeping me in the dark, aren’t you Alec?” I grumbled in irritation.
“Oh, yes,” he agreed, nodding eagerly.
I sighed. “What about Calli?”
“She arrived here just a couple of hours ago, days after the others.”
“Are you allowed to tell me aboutheradventure? Or did she get married, have a couple of kids, and join the Legion of Angels—all in the short time that I was away?”
“Not exactly,” he said mysteriously.
“Not exactly? What does that even mean?”
He smiled.
