‘You sure do,’ Matteo said. ‘All day. And all night. But…’

‘Uh-oh, I don’t think I’m going to like this,’ Kyan said, suspecting that Matteo was about to deliver some less than appealing news.

Matteo smiled kindly and took a sip of his espresso. Following a brief pause, Matteo said that the plan was for him to leave a security detail at his townhouse to guard Kyan while he stepped up his plan to make him safe for good. Kyan wanted to know more about Matteo’s plan, but to say he wasn’t forthcoming with specific details would have been a huge understatement…

‘You know what you need to know,’ Matteo said, his voice firm but kind. ‘Daddy knows best. And that’s especially true given that this is my field of expertise. What I’m putting in place is a plan that will mean you’ll never have to look over your shoulder again. You’ll be back playing for high stakes in no time, but I won’t let you gamble with your life by giving you any more information than is necessary. Just know that Daddy Matteo is doing his thing.’

Kyan felt a nervous tingle all over.

It was silly to try and deny it. Matteo was a man who did bad things. Kyan knew this about Matteo, and yet it didn’t change how he felt about him. And the fact that Matteo was evidentlyputting his own life in danger in order to protect his made Kyan feel like the most special boy in the world.

It was time for Kyan to be a big boy and show his support for his Daddy.

‘I understand,’ Kyan said, trying to sound as brave as he possibly could. ‘I know you’ll kick whoever’s butt needs kicking and keep me safe.’

‘That’s the spirit, young man,’ Matteo said, finishing off his espresso. ‘Now if you’ll excuse me, I need a refill. I’ll be back in a minute. And try not to finish off everything on your breakfast tray before I get back!’

‘I’ll try but I can’t promise,’ Kyan giggled, taking Gambit and helping him to munch some of the apple slice. ‘And I don’t think Gambit is going to help me on that score either…’

With that, Matteo smiled and left the bedroom to fetch another steaming hot espresso to enjoy in bed with Kyan.

‘He’s a keeper, isn’t he Gambit?’ Kyan asked, holding his stuffie tight to his chest. ‘I think Matteo might be one in a million. I just hope he thinks the same about us…’

Chapter 18

Matteo

With Kyan waiting patiently in the cinema room for the afternoon movie to begin, Matteo knew that he didn’t have too much time to wrap up his admin.

For so long, the study in Matteo’s townhouse had been a place of sanctuary for him. It was the quietest room in the house – in no small part due to the fact that the window was double-reenforced bullet proof glass. So as the quiet day to day life of his upper-crust neighborhood went on outside, Matteo was fully insulated from any distracting noise.

The reality of course was that all the windows in Matteo’s house were bullet proofed. In fact, the whole building had been very subtly security-proofed since he moved in. Matteo had ensured that his neighbors never cottoned on to the work he was having done though – the last thing that Matteo wanted was for any prying eyes or wandering minds to start to gossip and wonder precisely what it was he did for a living.

‘Okay. Time to message the men…’ Matteo said, his voice low and the tumbler of whisky glistening in the corner of his eye as he picked up his cell phone.

MATTEO:Cousins… I’m ready to make my move. I’ll put you both on security at my place. You can bring a man each with you too. But remember, I don’t want any attention on my house unless it’s totally unavoidable. The boy may have his two friends over, but Kyan is under strict instruction as to what is expected of him. If he steps out of line, message me. If you need to correct Kyan’s friends, you may do that yourselves.

Matteo leaned back in his seat and waited for Michael and Faustino to respond. He knew that his two closest allies might not be overly keen on being put on a watching brief rather than coming with Matteo – but it had to be this way.

The truth was that Matteo was going to be making a very dangerous trip with Steele. The two of them had worked together on some very dangerous operations in the past, and they both knew how the other worked. Matteo could have brought Michael and Faustino into the fold, but it would have meant adding an unnecessary risk to Kyan’s life – after all, if things went wrong then Matteo wanted to at least have one final comfort of knowing that Kyan would be in safe hands.

And indeed, Matteo couldn’t think of two better men than Faustino and Michael to protect Kyan in the event of his downfall. Matteo had even made a detailed plan, accompanied by codes to hidden bank accounts and safehouse, that Kyan could use if it came to pass that this was one mission too far for Matteo.

‘Fuck, this is very real,’ Matteo muttered, sipping on his whisky. ‘I just hope Michael and Faustino understand why I have to do this without them.’

But Matteo needn’t have worried too much…

FAUSTINO:Instructions received, captain. You know we would both come with you in a heartbeat. But this is for the young man, and we both get that too. Eyes open. Stay safe. Fire first.

MICHAEL: Agreed. And don’t worry, if either of Kyan’s friends step out of line, I’ll have them over my knee and begging for mercy before they know what’s spanking them. Go well. And know that when this is done, we will rule as Fendi’s together.

Matteo smiled as he read Faustino and Michael’s messages. The pair of them were worth their weight in gold and Matteo truly appreciated how fortunate he was to have men who he could trust with not only his life, but his boy’s life too.

It was at this point that Matteo could hear Kyan calling out for him.

‘Damn, it’s been longer than twenty minutes,’ Matteo said, shaking his head. ‘I told the boy it would be less than five until I was done. How ever will I make it up to him…’

With a wicked smile on his face and a rapidly hardening cock, Matteo stood up from his treasured vintage study chair and made his way toward the cinema room.
