“Of course it’s high.” I snorted. “I lost a friend, my boyfriendis ready to hunt the bastards down who did this to find out what happened andwhy, my boss is looking at me like I have a penis sticking out of my forehead, and I really need out of this ambulance.”

Before the EMT could say anything, Shawnee came into the backand sat on the bench beside me.

“Why are you here? I thought you were leaving.” I didn’t likethat she was here. It meant that she could be in harm’s way.

“I wasn’t able to. Everything happened so quickly.” She shookher head. “I can’t believe Penny…” she sniffed, grabbing my hand and holding ittight in hers. “I’m glad you’re okay.”

“I’m glad you’re okay too,” I told her, sitting up. “But I needto go home. I need to know what happened tonight. I need—”

“Amber.” The barked use of my name, sent a hot shiver down myspine. “You know that’s not fucking happening.”

I looked up, finding a scowling Sammy standing a few feet away.

Before I could argue, Sammy joined us in the back of theambulance.

“You need to stop being an asshole,” Shawnee threw at him.

“And you need to mind your own business,” Sammy snapped at her.

“Really?” She raised an eyebrow. “Amber is—”

“Stop. Please. Now’s not the time,” I told her. “I was stuck inthe storage room, so he’s freaked out a bit.”

“Stop making excuses for him,” she said, her voice shrill. Shelaughed but the amusement wasn’t there. “God, Amber. He’s a domineering—”

“I love you and I know everyone is stressed right now but Sammyis not Aaron.” She didn’t have to even say the words and I knew she wascomparing the two of them. “Will you give us a moment?” I asked the EMT.“Please.”

He looked between all of us. “I wouldn’t normally leave youalone but the club he’s with helped my sister’s place of work.” He stepped outof the ambulance and stopped beside Sammy. “You have ten minutes.”

“What’s with you?” I asked Shawnee.

“It’s because Will is causing shit,” Sam answered. “Puttingnoise in her ear about me.”

“What? What the hell does that even mean and how would you knowthat?” I huffed when no one spoke. “Someone, answer me.”

“I went up to see your mom,” Shawnee finally answered. “Sammy’sright. But how would you know that?”

“Because Tiny contacted me.” Sam only shrugged.

“Wait. What?” My head whipped around. “He did? When?”

“A few nights ago.” Sammy reached for my hand. “I’m sorry Ididn’t tell you, but you’ve had enough issues when it comes to knowing thingswithin the club. I’m trying to keep you safe. I also figured that the less youknew, the better.”

“This is fucked up.” I sighed. “What happened when you went tosee my mom?” I asked Shawnee.

“I stopped by the clubhouse, and everyone was in a mood. Willwas there. He was asking about you. He wanted to know how you were doing and hesaid that he hoped you were well, which was weird by the way. I waited to seeif he would say anything about your pregnancy, but he didn’t mention it. Ididn’t tell him but...”

“What?” I cupped her hands that were resting on her lap.“Shawnee.”

“He knows,” she told me, reaching over and placing a hand on mystomach. “He knows you’re carrying twins. That’s why tonight happened.”

“Fuck,” Sammy muttered.

My heart started racing, my palms became sweaty. “I... you can’tbe serious. He wouldn’t go to all this trouble just because I’m pregnant.”

“You’re right. He wouldn’t.” She paused. “If you were carryinghis baby.”

“Fucking hell,” Sammy growled. “So, you’re saying that becausethe babies aren’t Will’s, he’s throwing a damn tantrum?”
