I was off the couch and standing in front of her before she even finished the sentence.
Plucking the pastry from her hand, I carefully laid it on the kitchen counter—I was having that later for a midnight snack—and scooped her up in a bridal carry.
“Adam! I’m too heavy,” she protested with her arms around my neck as I walked down the hall toward her bedroom.
“I’m going to smack your ass if you say that again. You’re not too heavy. You’re fucking perfect.”
Lainey leaned forward and whispered in my ear, “I’m too heavy.”
“Baby girl, if you want a spanking, all you have to do is ask.”
Chapter Thirty-Two
Adam
Lainey nursed Conor and, at my insistence, pumped before we went to bed.
“That way I can get up with him in the middle of the night, and you can get at least six hours of solid sleep.”
“But—”
“No buts, baby. The only thing I have to do tomorrow is schedule a doctor’s appointment, hang out with little man, and come down to help during your busy hours.”
Tears filled her eyes.
“Why are you doing this for me?”
Because I fucking adore you.
I didn’t say that, of course. Instead, I quipped, “You’ve made me see stars, baby girl. Your mouth and pussy are magic.”
The corners of her mouth turned up.
“Your dick’s not too bad, either.”
I pretended to be offended. “Not my tongue?”
“Oh, baby, your tongue should have to be registered as a lethal weapon. That thing is dangerous—in the best possible way.”
“I’d suggest you sit on my face, but I know you need your sleep.”
“I’ll be honest, it’s tempting. But you’re right. I do need to get to bed.”
Lainey was asleep before me, but only by a few minutes. The next thing I knew, Conor’s cries were coming through the monitor, and she was throwing off the covers.
I pressed on her shoulder and placed the sheet and comforter back on her body.
“Go back to sleep. I told you; I got this.”
I could tell she wanted to argue, so I lowered my voice and growled, “I will smack your ass, and edge you all fucking night if you don’t go back to sleep. Right. Now.”
She grabbed the blanket and rolled over with it wrapped around her.
“Let me know if you need anything.”
“I will. But I won’t. Go to sleep.”
“M’kay,” she murmured with her eyes closed.
