“Are you fucking serious?” Walker crows, laughing. “This guy’s got a death wish. Owens, what did you do?”

Game isn’t even in play, and the ref starts blowing the whistle, but Kit’s undeterred, skating hard at me. The rest of the Calgary team watches in apprehension.

Volkov mutters something to Walker—I catchDarcy’s exin there—and as Kit approaches and rears his fist back, the two Storm defensemen block him, shoving him down to the ice. The fans holler again, whistles blow right and left, and even the Calgary players are hauling Kit back.

“Game misconduct penalty,” the ref shouts into the mic,and the crowd cheers. The mic is turned off, and he’s yelling something at Kit. The other Calgary players are pulling him off the ice as he fights them, trying to get at me, and the fans roar. The Calgary defenseman gives Kit a hard shove from the bench to the hall.

“Driedger, you suck!” the fans chant as he disappears to the dressing room.

“I hope this Darcy chick is worth it,” Walker says, shaking his head.

She’s more than worth it—she’s my entire world.

Tonight? I’m going to show her.

I can’t hold off anymore.

CHAPTER 66

DARCY

Hayden fumblesthe front door open that night, never once taking his lips off mine. He yanks his jacket off, throwing it on the floor in haste.

We’ve been kissing since the lobby downstairs. Something about playing against Kit has Hayden unleashed. I shouldn’t feel this thrill at his possessiveness over me, but I do.

What did you say to Kit to piss him off so much?I asked Hayden after the game.

The truth, he answered.

He told him we were temporary, that means. A small twist of pain hits me in the chest. It’s getting harder to accept that reality, that this is just for fun and just for a few more days.

Hayden’s tongue sweeps against mine, and my thoughts and worries melt. Right here, right now. That’s all that matters.

I’m not going to worry about the future when I can enjoy the present with Hayden.

He shoves my jacket off, and I can barely get enough air, we’re kissing so hard. I like this side of him, where he goes after what he wants, whether that’s on the ice, or right now, as he’s devouring me.

“Tonight?” I gasp, and we both know what I mean.

Something’s changed, and it doesn’t seem like Hayden’s interested in waiting anymore.

He walks me back until I bump against the wall. Then he dips his head and kisses me hard. My knees go weak at the sensation of his tongue against mine. If he didn’t have me pinned against the wall, I’d be sliding to the floor. He pulls back, breathing hard and resting his forehead against mine, eyes flashing with heat.

“Tonight.”

The promise in that one word has arousal pooling low in my abdomen. I close my eyes and revel in the feeling of Hayden’s lips all over my skin, him tugging the neckline of my top aside to nip at my shoulder. His hands stray to the hem of my jersey, lifting.

“Naked. Now.”

In this household, we no longer use full sentences. I raise my arms, and he pulls the top over my head. Then I’m pulling his off, baring his broad chest and warm skin. He tugs the fabric of my bra down so his lips can wrap around the tight point of my breast, and I struggle with his belt while he fumbles with my bra clasp. The drugging pull of his lips on my nipple has my head falling back against the wall and my eyelids dropping closed. My pulse throbs between my legs.

He makes a low, frustrated noise of urgent impatience before his mouth returns to mine and his tongue delves between my lips, like even sixty seconds was too long to go between kisses.

“I love this side of you.” I huff a laugh as he gets frustrated with my bra and rips the clasp apart. “Did you just tear it?”

“Probably.” A quick grin appears on his face. He’s flushed and breathing hard. “I’ll buy you more.”

He loses his pants and boxers, cock already stiff and jutting out as he pulls a condom from his wallet androlls it on. He lowers his mouth to mine again, kissing me hard, taking my breath away.
