“Fan song?”I look at Quinn in confusion as she puts a hand on her mouth to cover her laughter.

“Mrs.Betty, you didn’t.”

“Oh, we did.”Mrs.Agnes agrees and takes a fan out of her purse and pops it hard one time.“Just make sure the DJ is ready for me.”

The two old ladies hold on to one another as they wobble away.“Should I be worried about one of them breaking a hip?”

“Definitely,” Quinn giggles, and I pull her closer to my side.

The line of people to greet is long, but we move through them pretty quickly. When I see we’re getting to the end, Georgia is the last in line.

“Sorry I’m late. There was a bit of a situation.”She seems nervous as she looks beyond the tent to the edge of the field.

I follow her line of sight to where an all-black undercover police car is parked. There’s a man leaning against it, watching us.

“Who is that?”The hair on the back of my neck rises, but she tries to wave it off.

“It’s fine, he’s, um, from the state. He’s here because an investigation has been opened.”

“What investigation?”Quinn asks the same thing I’m thinking.

“He said it’s normal.”Georgia tries to stay calm, but I’ve been giving her shooting lessons for the past month, so I know exactly what she looks like when she’s nervous.“But they are looking into how I ran things. It’s nothing for you two to be worried about.Especially not today.I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have brought it up.”

“No, I’m glad you did,” I say, and some of her tension seems to disappear.“What do you need from us?”

“Nothing. At least I don’t think so.He said he was going to be here for a little while, but I get the feeling like he doesn’t want to be, you know?Like someone forced him to come ask me some questions.”

“Hmm.”Quinn makes the sound, and we both turn to her.

“What?”I put my hand on her back, and she shrugs.

“It’s nothing, but I just remembered Simon’s family was really well-connected.He told me about his mom and dad being in politics or something, but I thought it was all talk.Maybe his family is pushing for this.”She looks at me, and a hint of fear passes in her eyes.

“Hey, nothing is going to happen to you or to me,” I tell her, then pull her close and give her a cocky smile.“Besides, you're my wife now, and technically you can’t testify against me.”

“Rhodes.”She slaps my chest and shakes her head, but I see her grinning.“This isn’t a joke.”

“He’s right,” Georgia agrees.“I heard it in a podcast.Oooh, is that crab?See y'all later.”

Georgia takes off toward the buffet, and I glance back at the edge of the field where the man and the car are now gone.

“Seriously, Rhodes, should we?—”

“Come on,” I say and pull her behind me as I weave through the tent.We get to the back, and there’s a storage building behind it where they keep the supplies for the park.

“What are we doing?”She looks around like we’re going to get in trouble as I jimmy the lock open.

“You promised me alone time,” I say, and the door pops open.“Now come here and let me take your mind off everything that isn’t me.”

She squeals as I yank her inside and then push her up against the door to keep anyone from interrupting us.

“That’s a tempting offer, but don’t we have a tent full of people waiting for us to cut the cake?”

I’m already reaching for the bottom of her dress and hiking it up.“You think I give a fuck about cake when I’ve got my dessert right here?”I drop to my knees in front of her and then groan with desire.“Are you telling me this pussy has been bare all day?”

“Surprise?”Quinn bites her bottom lip as I toss her leg over my shoulder and kiss up her thigh.

“It’s probably for the best that you didn’t tell me sooner.”I take a long lick up her pussy lips and hum my appreciation.“Fuck, it’s like you’re even sweeter.”
