"What she said, was it true?" I asked.

"Every word," he said without hesitation. "Of course, she added her own flare, but yeah, it's true."

"Did you know who she was?"

"Yeah. I thought it was hilarious, if I'm being honest. You know how it is, people like us tend to find darker things funny."

I nodded. I did understand.

"Say something," he murmured, the barest edge of panic seeping into his tone.

"What do you want me to say?"

"Tell me we're ok. That half a blow job and ten minutes in the front seat of my car five years ago didn't wreck us."

I waved him off. "I knew who and what you were when I agreed to this—relationship. Not gonna lie, there is this ugly, possessive feeling crawling under my skin that makes me want to flay her with my favorite knife, because she touched you. But you chose the rightgirl for dark humor and the part of me that doesn't want to cut her face off does find it hilarious that you fucked her twice in one night. It just might be a while before I can laugh at it."

"Fair enough. As long as you're still mine."

"Always. But—you might owe me."

"Name it."

"I promised you the final strike. Think I might need that one back."

He smiled softly, his fingers brushing across my face, feathering back through my hair.

"Done."

His lips found mine, soft and tender, a stark contrast to the near violence his lips held earlier.

With shaky hands, I pulled him to me, moaning as his hand cupped my breast, squeezing softly.

"I fucking love these," he said, leaning forward and taking the pink bud into his mouth, gently suckling. Electricity zinged through my body, every nerve alive. My aching pussy somehow still hungry for more of him.

He rolled on top of me, settling himself into the cradle of my thighs. "I'll be gentle this time. Promise."

I nodded, pulling his lips back to mine as he began thrusting, gently making love to me.

Chapter 45

AHREN

Connor stood in the open doorway, face turned up against the setting sun, steaming cup of coffee in hand.

"You look oddly peaceful considering the chaotic mess we're knee deep in at the moment." I said, coming to stand beside her.

She shrugged, sipping her disgusting hot bean water. "The dogs were pawing at the door and looking up at me with those—eyes. I figured they needed to pee, so I let them out."

I offered her a half smile. "Thanks."

"You two ok?" she asked.

I barked out a laugh. "Yeah. Better than ok."

She arched her brow. Her lips parted, then snapped shut with a nod.

"Say it."
