“Well, unfortunately, another date with Jake and his little handyman and rough hands isn’t in the cards for you.”

“And why not?” Sara’s fist flies to her hip and she nearly stomps.

“Because Jake and I are a thing now.”

Sara narrows her eyes at us, then focuses those crazy things on me, “How serious of a thing?”

Emmy answers for me, “Dead serious. He met my parents last week.”

Sara’s eyes go wide at Emmy’s admission. I was worried Sara wasn’t going to believe her, and I was going to have to kiss Emmy again. I know, it’s a hardship, but I’m willing to take one for the team.

Huffing, Sara shakes her head and looks disappointed. “Well, I guess now just wasn’t our time, Jake.”

It’s my turn to look at her in shock. She keeps going.

“I wish you the best of luck in life. If your little handyman ever misses me, let me know. I can be discreet.” With that, she turns and walks toward the elevators.

My jaw … it hits the floor.

I can almost see the steam pouring out of Emmy’s ears. She starts to go after Sara, but I yank her back by her arm and place a hand on her waist. “Hey, hey, calm down. You’re better than that,” I say quietly into her ear.

“That woman just offered to be the other woman. To help you cheat.” She’s glaring down Sara’s retreating form.

“I know, but I’m not a cheater and never will be. I’m also not interested in her.”

She shakes me off, my arms drop to my sides. God, she’s adorable when she’s mad. Having to hold her back from a possible cat fight has my body excited. Cat fights are not my thing, but when it’s Emmy trying to defend my honor, it’s a whole different ball game.

Emmy shakes her head as if to bring herself back to the moment. “Why do I even care?” She gestures between us. “We aren’t real.”

“Then why’d you get so jealous?” I prod.

What? It's what men do, we like to push buttons, it can’t be helped.

“No! I wasn’t jealous! I was trying to help you out.” She’s all flustered now. Adorable.

“Right, if you say so, Emmy.” I can’t help my smug smile.

She lets out a frustrated growl. “Well, now your no-screwing-the-residents rule makes sense. You shacked up with the building’s crazy and now you’re playing it safe.”

“Hey now, be nice. I didn’t fuck Sara.” She shoots me a look of disbelief. “Not for a lack of trying on her end though. Hell, Emmy, she named my dick!”

Emmy presses her lips together.

“I found her on some hookup app and didn’t realize who she was until about two minutes after our date started. She drove right on in to crazy town after that.”

“Then how does she know your grammy?” My grammy will get a kick out of this story later, that's for sure.

“She doesn’t, she was trying to make you jealous.”

Emmy’s eye twitches at the comment.

“Less than thirty minutes into our date, I called my brother and faked an emergency. That’s the story I gave her.”

She studies me. I think she believes me.

“The date was that bad?” She bites her lip.

“The worst. She wasted no time letting me know how hot she was for me. She’s one very horny and crazy woman.”
