“Thanks, honey, but I’m more concerned about Gia. I hope they don’t speak badly of her.” His mother sipped a cup of cider. “After all, the party was beautiful and she ran it well. The agency did a wonderful job and I don’t think we scared off any potential customers because of one little lovers’ quarrel. But Gia doesn’t deserve to take the blame for this from her superiors.”

Seth nodded. He agreed wholeheartedly.Hedeserved to take the blame.

“And I don’t think anyone, except maybe Abigail, was actually upset by the incident tonight, and she’ll come around. That woman was full of drama when she was young.” His mother smiled, remembering the good old days. “Oh, if she didn’t play the field in high school. That woman broke more hearts than I’ve broken dishes in my lifetime.”

Seth chuckled. “Well, that’s a surprise. Maybe she’ll go easy on her, then.”

“I hope so.” His mother took another sip of the cider.

He stood up. “Well, hey, I’m going to try to call Gia now.” He picked up his phone from the table and gave his mother a kiss on the forehead. She reached out and wrapped an arm around his waist and held him there. “If I’d have known you were such a heartbreaker, yourself, I’d have told you what you were doing wrong, honey. Next time, tell me what’s going on before you go and make a mess of it. I’m here to help.” She smiled.

Seth laughed. He’d remember that. She’d already saved him once. “All right, Mom. I will.”
