Seth glanced over at the corral. “Ponies are always a big hit with kids at these kinds of things.”
“That’s for sure.”
Out of nowhere, Gia heard a clattering, and they all turned to look.
Seth winced and looked over his shoulder. “Uh-oh. Looks like one of the signs.”
“And a lot of buckets,” Kira added.
“Oh, no.” Gia crinkled her nose.
“Well, hey, I’d better go take care of it. How long are you staying? This goes on until seven.” He looked at his watch. “It’s a little after five.”
“Actually, Kira and Courtney have been here a while and they have to go, but I just got here. I was called in to work earlier.” She wanted to tell him about the potential booking but it wasn’t the right time—he was in a hurry. “I was going to walk them to their car and then come back and take a look around.”
“Oh, okay, cool.” He looked at Gia. “Well, come and find me when you get back. I need to go check on the orchard market’s tent after I deal with the mess.” He pointed to it. “It’s over there.”
“Okay, sure.” Gia stuck a hand in the front pocket of her shorts.
Seth glanced back at the overturned buckets. “I’m sorry I didn’t get to show you all around a bit.”
Kira grinned. “Oh, it’s no problem. We had fun today.”
Courtney nodded.
“I’m glad you liked it, and it was a pleasure meeting you, ladies.”
“Likewise.” Courtney replied.
He gave them all a friendly nod and skirted off.
Courtney and Kira turned to stare at Gia after he was gone, smiling, but neither spoke for a beat.
Gia looked innocent. “What?”
Courtney started in first. “Oh. My. Goodness. You’ve been holding out on us.”
“What are you talking about?” Gia asked. “He’s nice, right?”
“Yes, he is,” said Kira. “But you didn’t tell us he looks like a movie star!”
“Or that he’s so charming!” Courtney chimed in. “And no, we definitely didn’t see him earlier today. I would’ve remembered.”
Gia giggled. “Shh. People might hear you.”
Kira glanced around matter-of-factly but lowered her voice. “Don’t worry, Stewart. No one can hear us.”
“Seriously, he’s really good-looking,” Courtney whispered.
They started toward the parking lot.
Gia straightened her shoulders. “He is, isn’t he? But I’m working with him. It doesn’t matter what he looks like.”
Kira turned to Gia. “We talked about this at dinner the other night. I still think it’s fine. Plus, it’s obvious he likes you.”
“What? No. Do you think so?”
Courtney took off her sunglasses and grabbed Gia’s wrist playfully. “He totally does. He asked you to come and find him. Guys don’t talk like that unless they’re into you.”
