Gia smiled and hurried over. “Hi, girls! How’s it going?”
Kira gave her a quick hug.
“Sorry I’m so late.”
“No worries. But our apologies, too, my dear—we both had a slice of cherry pie without you.”
“It was reallythe thing to dohere. We couldn’t resist.” Courtney gave her a hug.
“And it was out of this world.” Kira rolled her eyes with pleasure.
Gia laughed. “No problem. I’ll make sure I have a piece later. But I’m sorry I missed hanging out with you guys.” She smoothed her strappy yellow tank top and stuck a hand in the back pocket of her jean shorts. “Thanks for coming. Did you have fun?”
“Yeah, it was a really nice change of pace,” Courtney said. “I love coming out to the countryside, and the orchard is gorgeous. We played some of the games and walked around and watched people pick the cherries off the trees for a while. Kira took pictures. So how’d your meeting go?”
“It actually went really well,” Gia said enthusiastically. “They want to come and see the facility this week. Hopefully, they’ll like it. I can’t wait to tell Seth.”
“Oh, cool! Congrats!”
“Thanks!”
Kira glanced around. “So where do you think he is, anyway?” She arched an eyebrow. “The hot farmer who runs the place?”
Gia made a face at Kira and laughed, then scanned the crowd. She was a little nervous about seeing him. “Shucks. I don’t know. He must be busy.” The festival looked as though it had been a success. She wanted to congratulate him.
Courtney turned and glanced behind her. “We’ve been playing a game trying to guess who he is all day, but I don’t think we found the right guy.”
“You guys are funny.” Gia glanced around. But where would he be? What if she didn’t find him? That would be a bummer.
“Well, I’ll walk you to your car.” Gia said. “I know you guys have to bail.”
Courtney had plans with Nick tonight, and Kira was supposed to have dinner with a friend in Anderson Cove.
“Okay, sounds good,” Courtney said.
Gia started toward the lot with them when she heard a familiar voice.
“Hey, Gia!”
Her heart skipped a beat and she turned around. It was a good thing she was wearing sunglasses because her eyes went wide at the sight of him. The white shirt he wore with his blue denims did nothing to hide the outline of his perfectly toned arms. She felt her cheeks flushing. “Seth! Hi.”
He reached the three of them. “I’m so glad you made it.”
“Me, too! It’s great to see you.” His smile was incredible. It really was great to see him. She turned to the girls. “These are my friends, Courtney and Kira.”
“Nice to meet you both,” he said graciously. “Thanks for coming out today.”
“Absolutely. It’s been fun.” Courtney stuck out a hand to shake. “We wouldn’t have missed it.”
Kira shook his hand next.
“So—great turnout, right?” Gia ventured. “It seems to be going well?”
“Yeah, it’s been good. Nice and busy. Everyone’s happy.”
Gia removed her sunglasses, squinting toward the small corral that had been set up on the other side of the parking lot. “Has the line to the pony rides been nonstop all day?”
Kira nodded. “It has since we got here.”
