I sniffled as I wiped my eyes on the sleeve of my sweater, and suddenly, it sunk in how ridiculous I could look if someone saw me crying on the street. Especially if someone recognized who I was.
Chapter 30
Cameron
Sophia’s family home wasn’t small by any stretch of the word. But, no matter where you sat, if someone ran the shower, you’d be able to hear it. The water trickled noisily through the old pipes. Normally, because of the thin walls, you’d be able to hear if someone listened to music too. But, when it was Mason showering, if you were quiet enough, you’d get lucky enough to hear her sing.
From my position on the couch, I couldn’t exactly make out what she was saying, but I could hear the melody. Part of me wanted to go sit outside the door just so I could enjoy her that much more. Unfortunately, Sebastian had other fucking plans.
“I told you to draw the attention of the church. Not involve the fuckingmedia.” Sebastian snapped as he pointed to his laptop.
On the screen was a picture of Mason and I that had to be taken today. We were out front of the bookstore and my hand was on her belly. Thankfully, whoever did this didn’t capture her crying.
Instead, Mason was smiling andmy Godthe way she was looking at me was enough to make me melt. Her mismatched eyes were so warm that I could feel how much she loved me. And, while I’d probably have broken someone’s phone if I caught them taking this, it had to be my favorite photo of us.
But, with Sebastian standing just inches from me, I couldn’t let him know that.
“I didn’t realize how short Mason was,” I mumbled, leaning in so I could see the picture better.
Sebastian snapped the computer shut as he groaned and tossed himself beside me on the couch.
“So, no part of you is concerned about the fact that the whole fucking world now knows that you’re Mason Albright’s baby daddy.”
“I ain’t her baby daddy… I’m her boyfriend.”
“You’re not helping your case.”
“What—should I try to be her fiance too?”
“I’d rather not have you as competition.” Sebastian smirked, leaning into the couch.
“Why—because you know you’d lose?” I knew that wasn’t necessarily true.
If given the choice between Seb, Lucian and I, Mason would choose Luce. That wasn’t even up for debate. The two went together like a wedding cake and a chainsaw, but I think they liked it that way.
Sebastian reached over to flick the tip of my nose. The pain was warm, sharp, and short lived. All it really did was piss me off.
“Real mature,” I grumbled, rubbing the spot.
“I thought I’d try acting my age for once.”
Normally, that type of comment from Sebastian would have earned him a snide remark. But, for the first time ever, I didn’t have the urge to humble Sebastian.
I was probably too smitten over the photo of Mason and I. I’d really need to try to find it later.
“Back on topic—I literally showed the whole world Mason was mine. Have ya heard anything from Dale?”
Sebastian’s jaw hung open as he hesitated. “Actually, I was going to askyouthe same thing.”
I checked my phone despite the fact it had been completely silent since we got home. “Nope. Nothin’.”
The second I spoke the words fully sunk in. I was photographed with Mason, feeling our daughter kick, and no one had asinglething to say to me. Well–Exceptfor Seb. But he always had something to say. Seriously, the guy never seemed to shut up.
It was too soon to fully count my blessings. But, there was a real chance Dale was actually done with me. That meant I was gonna get to be there foreverything.Maybe I’d even be able to go to an ultrasound.
A smile sprouted on my lips and Sebastian gave me a sour look. But, before he had the chance to say anything nasty, Mason’s singing stopped and so did the shower. Sebastian’s phone buzzed, drawing his attention.
He pushed his glasses up his nose as his eyes scanned the screen. “The kids are still going to be out for a while, right?”
