“Huh.” He scratched at his stubble. “Maybe you need to give her a few days to eat through the chocolate.”

“There has to be something else I can do.”

He grinned at me, wide enough for me to see his crooked bottom teeth. “Have you tried groveling?”

“I sent her some text messages.” I handed him my phone so he could see what I’d written.

He scanned through the messages and shook his head. “That’s not good enough. You’re going to have to do better.”

“How?”

“Admit all fault. Tell her it will never happen again. Lay it on thick. Tell her that you feel horrible about what happened, and you wouldn’t blame her if she wanted to break up with you. Then tell her that you think she’s the prettier of the two sisters and give her all the reasons you want to be with her.”

“Admit all fault? I didn’t want Jackilyn to kiss me, though.”

“You can tell her that, but she’ll trust you more if you tell her that it was your fault for allowing yourself to be in that situation.”

“Oh, I see.” What he was saying did make sense.

“The key is to make it seem like you’re not making excuses for your behavior or trying to deny that you’re at fault in any way.”

“How do you know all this?”

“I read a lot. And I’ve lived a lot. I’ve had plenty of chances to experience this stuff. I’ve gotten myself in tons of compromising situations with the ladies.” He wiggled his eyebrows at me.

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Now that I can believe.” Uncle Ryan always had a different woman showing up at the mechanic shop. Sometimes two showed up at the same time. That was always interesting.

“Trust me when I tell you that groveling always works. And admitting all fault. You can always find something wrong that you did. Keep it genuine. Women are experts at seeing through anything fake.”

“Got it.”

“When are you seeing her next?”

“We’re meeting after school tomorrow to rehearse.”

“Oh, that’s right. You’re doing that kissing scene together.” He laughed. “This just gets better and better.”

“Yeah. So even if we break up, we’ll still be kissing.”

“Hey, that’s not such a bad thing. Especially if you want to get her back.”

“I guess that’s true.”

“You gotta keep me updated on this stuff. This is the most entertaining thing I’ve heard all week.”

“It’s only Monday.”

He waved a hand at me. “You know what I mean.”

I laughed.

“So when’s this big Drama Competition?”

“It’s next week.”

“That doesn’t give you much time to patch things up.”

“Not really.”
