Owen hugged her, and she put her arms around him. And boy, did she feel good. He could hold her like that for the rest of eternity.
“You’re the woman I love. I would do that and more for you.”
“I love you so much, Owen.”
“I should have canceled the big church orders the first day that you told me your customers were leaving to go to Hadley’s, but I was too much of an idiot to see what I needed to do. I’m sorry you suffered any unnecessary pain because of my restaurant.”
“I didn’t expect you to do that,” Alexis said. “I already feel like you went above and beyond by telling people around town to go to my bakery. I can’t believe you did that for me. And what you just did at the microphone . . . I’m floored.”
“What were you going to tell me?”
“Excuse me, so sorry to interrupt, but we were wondering if we could speak with Alexis Remington.” Owen looked up to see one of Chase’s bandmates standing with his fiancée.
“Hi, I’m Alexis. What can I do for you?”
“We’re getting married in California in two months, and we were wondering if you’d be willing to provide us with a cake for our wedding. We’d be willing to pay whatever you charge. Money is no problem. But we really like the job you did on Chase and Lauren’s cake, and we’ve decided we want you to do ours too.”
“In California?” Alexis asked.
“That’s correct.”
Alexis pressed her lips together for a moment before she answered them. “Can I get your information and get back to you about that? I’ll have to check my schedule.”
“Of course.” He handed her a business card. The couple left, and Alexis turned to Chase.
“How am I supposed to bake a wedding cake in California?”
“I happen to have a state-of-the-art kitchen you are welcome to use whenever you’d like.”
“You would let me do that?” Alexis asked.
“Of course, I would.”
“I could pack all my supplies in my suitcase.” Alexis tapped her fingers against her lips. “I’m not sure it would be worth it for me to pay for a ticket out there.”
“You do realize who that was, don’t you?”
“Wasn’t that one of the guys in Chase’s band?”
“Yes. A celebrity.”
“Yeah, I know.” Alexis waved a hand dismissively. “They’re everywhere.”
“And now you do celebrity weddings.”
Her eyes lit up. “I guess I do.”
“Are you Alexis Remington?” They turned to see an attractive woman with long brown hair addressing them. “I’m Chelsea Givens. I’m a celebrity wedding planner.”
“Oh, hi! It’s so nice to meet you.”
Chelsea smiled at Alexis. “It’s nice to meet you too.”
“What can I do for you?”
“Several of my clients are looking for someone to do their cakes for them, and I was impressed with what you offered today.”
“Oh, thank you. That’s so sweet of you.”
