“After an orgasm like that, definitely.”

I could see a smile crossing his face as he lifted an arm and I snuggled in. I wasn’t always cuddly, but right now I needed to be close. He needed it too, I guessed.

“Wait, should we check on the animals?”

He shrugged. “Aren’t you supposed to let sleeping dogs lie?”

Goober wasn’t a dog, but I was warm and comfortable, unwilling to move. They’d been quiet, so probably they were fine. We’d hear if they weren’t.

Maybe they were cuddled up too, I thought as I drifted off to sleep.

It took me a moment to figure out where I was when I woke up. The room was familiar, but not mine, not anymore. I’d stayed here before I married Ollie. I remembered coming over, Beast and Goober, and amazing sex. I stretched, feeling great.

I was alone in the bed. I checked the time and pulled on my clothes that I found folded up on the dresser. I shuffled out to the main room. Remy nodded at the counter where he had coffee waiting. My hair was a mess and my clothes rumpled, but he didn’t seem to notice, giving me a warm and appreciative smile. Goober was nowhere in sight, and Beast was growling in the corner.

“Thanks.” I leaned on one of the breakfast bar stools and wrapped my hands around the coffee mug.

“Sleep okay?” His cheeks flushed as he asked, gaze focused on his own mug.

“Great. Where did Goober go?”

His head turned to the door. “She slipped through when I took Beast out first thing.”

I sighed. “She’s probably gone back to the house. I should too.”

Remy cocked his head. “Will your brother be worried about you?”

I snorted. His eyebrows lifted. “The new girlfriend will have kept him busy. And as you may have noticed, I’m an adult and can take care of myself.”

His eyes flicked down my body, what was visible behind the counter, and back up. “Yeah, I noticed. But things can happen. Even to grownups.”

“Cash has been away for months, so he won’t suddenly start worrying about where I am every moment. We lead pretty separate lives.”

My plan in any case was to sneak into the house before Cash knew I’d been out. Not because I was ashamed of spending the night with Remy, but I didn’t want to get into the details ofmylife before I’d discussed Cash’s.

Reluctantly, I set down the mug and straightened up. “Thanks for the coffee.”

“I feel like I should see you out.”

“Nice thought, but I walk between the house and here every day. I’m good.”

I wasn’t sure of the etiquette here. Did we kiss? Shake hands? Wave goofily? Remy followed me to the door, and when I turned to say—good-bye, thanks, something—he solved the problem by leaning forward and pressing a gentle kiss to my lips. I caught a whiff of toothpaste, but since I had morning and coffee breath, I didn’t ask for more when he pulled back.

I was still smiling dreamily when I entered the kitchen of the house.

“And where have you been?”

I jumped as Cash laughed. “What are you doing up so early?” I countered.

He shrugged. “I’ve been traveling—messed up my sleep.”

I narrowed my eyes at him, since I knew he’d been doing more than sleeping with…what was her name, Tamika? Tiffany? No, Trinity.

“But you look like you’ve been out all night.” He leaned on the counter, arms crossed. “And I didn’t hear the car. Have you been over at the carriage house?”

He thought he was so smart, I just had to mess with him. “I was working on a deadline.”

Cash jerked. “Really? You’re that busy?”
